Question for you card guys.....

I acquired a set of cards from the 2009 Nba rookie photoshoot. The cards are made by Panini and are shots from the actual shoot they had there that day. They were given to me by the facilities guy at the MSG training center where they held the shoot. The cards, belonged to Earl Clark, and included 75 of earls cards and a full set of signed rookie cards including Blake Griffin, Stephen Curry and James Harden. The cards are not numbered. I have found one other on eBay but beyond that I'm not sure where to look. Just wanted some opinions on possibly getting them graded/value. Thanks

I don't collect basketball cards, so I'm not sure. Giving this thread a bump in case anyone else can help you out.

Not my line of expertise either but I'd be curious myself. Some big names mentioned there.

If Panini did player-exclusive cards like Topps did with photo shoots, you have a nice acquisition there. The autographs have some big names for sure. Are any of them embossed? I think the pack inserts were very limited and embossed so these are probably more in quantity but less have probably been on ebay.

Cards are not embossed with anything. Just standard run of the mill player cards. I'm working on pictures right now. Give me a few.....

Griffin is hot so you have a nice find here. I was hoping Clark was a better player and noting that they were his would increase the value but not so much.

    Looking forward to the scans.

These are just some quick photos with my iPad. Should give you a good idea of what they look like. The one card I saw on eBay had a impression in the upper corner the said panini authentic photograph or something to that effect. That must have happened after the rookie photoshoot somewhere down the line on the way to market.

Do these have the embossed stamp at the top of the card?

      Like this one

EDIT: Sorry, I just noticed you said yours do not have the stamp.

No. That looks just like the one on eBay that I saw. I'm guessing the reason mine don't have it is because the cards were for the players and not meant for retail? IMO honestly not sure. But none of them have it.

I have to assume yours are more rare, and your autos even look better than the ones on ebay.

      These look like great cards!

Have to agree that the autos look better.
    • I would guess the signed cards were embossed before they went into packs. I think these would be worth grading because of the scarcity and to confirm the autos are real.

Is this something where you get the set as a whole graded or just individual cards? Thanks for all the replies.

If it were me, I'd probably just cherry-pick the more popular (and thus, more valuable) autos and send those in. But, if you wanted to move the whole thing as one set, then it might be more worth it to have all of them graded.

Your timing couldn't be better, as one of the board members is doing a bulk autographed card submission, at $14.50 per card. John, I hope I didn't speak out of turn on this one. image

I saw that. If submitted, will they be able to,determine where and when the card was made and signed? Or is that something I would need to tell the, before hand? Never submitted anything before.

Go figure. He's been with like 4 teams since he was drafted. Haha. Good thing there are some solid players besides him

I'm assuming these would be the ones to submit. Does anyone else have any other notables that I should maybe consider? Also, I asked it before, what specifics do I need to supply when submitting? Am I submitting just to verify the signature or when the card was actually made/signed? Thanks
    • Those are the big three for sure. The cards all appear legit but I'm wondering if you go red label, would PSA be able to validate those cards? Or is blue label the better option? I think some people will be leery of these cards because they are not embossed. Topps used to label the player issued cards differently which was nice. I didn't notice any change on these. I imagine some will automatically think the autographs are fake because they aren't familiar with the cards.

What's the difference between red and blue labels? Should I consider contacting panini and seeing if there's a way for them to validate the cards? Or is that one of the things psa does?

Funny you mention it, I was going to add something close to your second point. Without seeing the cards in person, I don't think they could validate YOUR cards but I think they could validate that the players were given cards. Red label grades auto and the card, blue is autograph only.

I had to dig this up from the grave. Guys who just won the NBAS title? Steph Curry. I think now might be the time to get these graded and certified. Does anyone have any suggestions as to the correct approach? As much as I would hate to break the set up, i think its time. Thanks again. Tim
