Well if they're from non-English speaking countries we can't really fault them if they don't speak English quite well, right? image

Nope. Seems though that English has become the universal language in many locales.

Many of the athletes speak English well because they train in North America or are attending school in North America. Most of the athletes who aren't in North America do the same in Europe where exposure to English is widespread.

Also in many developed and developing countries learning English is mandatory. Many educated people can understand and write English satisfactorily but speaking is another story.

Unlike the United States, most countries embrace multiple languages. The US is seemingly alone in embracing linguistic ignorance.

It is all good and well to communicate with different nationalities and cultures however speaking different languages tends to be divisive, not uniting.

    false.

speaking the native language of a foreign country shows respect.
