Grading question

For all you grading afficianados out there... is a fisheye an automatic deduct in grading on a card or is it card specific? Is there a difference in where it's located? If it is an automatic deduct, what would you expect to see it drop? i.e. from a 9 to an 8, etc.? I appreciate any insight you can offer.

  • I've see them in 10s before. But it's really about a combination of everything that gives a card it's grade.

You can have a 9 with a few of them, but everything else would need to be spot on. And since usually this isn't the case, if you have one noticeable fisheye I'd say that's a 1 point deduction.

    Location does matter.
It's fairly common to see a fisheye on the border of a PSA 9.
If it is located in a central part of the image, less likely to get a 9.
As for amount, I've found two or more fisheyes almost always = 8.
