Renewal Sub - Clobberd again!

these popped while i was in my dentist's waiting room preparing for an emergency root canal.
I am convinced this company is out to get me...

ofcourse i think the 8's should be 9s and the 9s should be 10s
the nolan and the brett-nm were cards i posted here a while ago - i was counting on a 8.5 for the ryan as the centering is perfect

the minis are from the batch of packs we got from BBCE in october break - the videos i posted.
all blazers - all centered - again 8.5 at least!!!

EDIT: The Borgman i agree with - the T/B centering is an 8

everyone of these cards was pack fresh and dead centered except the Yaz - i dont know how much more of this i can take.
scans to follow.

Go ahead guys, let me have it!

I feel your pain. Your 7's and 8's probably look something like these.....

Perhaps that, what appears to be, chipping on the bottom edge? That's the first thing I saw when looking at the card.

Perhaps you already know this, but Mini's are tough for anyone, plain and simple. Having been through the ringer a number of times with subbing Mini's, I would actually be pretty happy with your results. A Borgmann in an 8 is crazy difficult. I've submitted maybe a half dozen of them and none have come back higher than a 7. And, two 9's out of 8 cards is pretty good for Mini's as well. So, I have to say, congrats on the Mini's - you actually did very well, IMO.

How were surfaces and registration? I have found that is the primary reason for a seemingly mint card to grade one grade lower.

I agree with Tim (Grote). If you're interested, when you get them back, you can post scans of them here. There's many around here that might be able to give you some ideas on the grades, at least with regard to most of the card attributes with the exception of the surface, which you'll have to examine yourself.

I know it's hard to tell from a scan, but it's not chipping. With colored edges, the edge looking white in spots is typical and pretty much unavoidable, a natural consequence of the cutting.

It's clear there are differing standards for different issues. There are so many horrendously ugly 8's with corner wear, poor centering, tilt, it just doesn't make sense to me that these exceedingly minor issues equate to a 7. But you can't fight city hall.

thanks - i do think the Gibson is a 9 but yeah i dont mean to complain too much

i guess my real issue is that if centering is that good - why not give the 0.5 upfront - on a bad day i cant help but think there is someeconomic consideration given when deciding between an 8 and an 8.5, especially for a card known to be tough and noted in the database as such.

i'll post scans when in hand.

Is there any snow on the Palmer? I see a lot of really nice Palmers that aren't submittable due to print snow (light or heavy).

Yes, there are 5 pieces of print snow. That may be what did it.

Still, I have to wonder....does anyone feel that five pieces of snow are a greater liability than a dinged corner and 65/35 centering? Maybe people's priorities just differ.

Note to self, don't submit 75's, lol...

IMO that Palmer would not look out of place at all in an 8 holder. I have also seen a lot of "disappointing" posts recently, and it seems to be a bit of a common theme. I have a 54 card sub, that I check for poppage every day. I have never been so excited for my subs, as I was pickier than ever with the cards. I hope I'm not in for a royal let down.

David, I think the discoloration by Palmer's eye is probably the culprit.

Honestly I still can barely see what you guys are talking about with the eye, I just don't see it as a defect that should lead to a 7, but it's obviously not my call.

With 75s, for registration or surface issues like that, they will typically grade the card as Mint 9PD or a straight NM 7.

I completely understand and agree with what you're saying; however, a 7 is par for the course on 75's with misplaced splashes of color and snow on an otherwise "perfect" card.

If you would be satisfied with an 8 on the Palmer I would resub. There are some slight flaws that others have mentioned, but assuming back is good and the bottom is not chipped, it looks like a good resub for an 8.

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)
