ebay seller tries to juice me for money- any recourse?

I just received a crazy response from a ebay seller; I earlier emailed him with specific questions regarding a complete set he listed. He responded with answers to my questions and then indicated that the buy it now has been increased another $200 more! I naturally replied that I thought this was wrong and passed. Do I have any recourse? can he be reported to ebay? this is bad form right? never had this happen before. member thoughts? thanks

You have as much right to pass as he/she does to raise or lower their price any time before purchase.

  • Bad etiquette but he owns the set and could raise or lower it all he wants....

There are more than a few sellers that will do that when you contact them about a BIN item. I guess it is their way of telling us to pound salt. I just make note of the seller and move on...

It is bad form, but in a way, you should probably be thankful that he raised the price. He basically told you up front that he's not a seller that you'd want to buy from.

A good reason for you to just look for another seller. Good luck.

Depending on questions, it could've opened his eyes that there was more value than he realized, thus justifying a bump in BIN, IMO

Or your questions legitimized you as a buyer and he's juicing you, which is poor form.

I think it comes down to intent.

I'd probably reply that I'm a buyer at $x, I'd he's interested in selling, and then move on.

    Best of luck.

his listing on ebay indicated that some of the cards were graded. I simply asked which ones and the grades. really steamed at this seller but I guess that's all she wrote...lol
  • ask him the same question again lol

then offer him a third the price of the original asking price
I edit almost all my posts because my auto correct is crazy !

I have heard of this kind of thing before. Seller senses interest and raises price on BIN. I would then simply move on.

People like to play games, I try to avoid them if I can.

Was the seller Dean's Cards? I have seen this very complaint with them before.

I am strictly a buyer on ebay and have never sold anything there, but I guess I do not see any bad form in a seller raising his price prior to an agreed sale. It happens all the time in the markets for virtually all goods depending on changing circumstances. As a buyer I am always trying to get a lower price and can surely understand a seller deciding he wants to go for a higher price. It's his stuff. But that's just my view and I get that I am apparently in the minority

On every one of my ebay searches, I modify them with "-Dean's"

Lol, funny you mention Deans. I am currently looking at buying 50 1978 Donruss Elvis sets and was looking to see what they were selling for and what people were asking. Most sell for $10-$18, people ask as high as $30-$50 and Deans was asking $129.
IT IS ALWAYS CHEAPER TO NOT SELL ON EBAY
  • Deans card prices arent just high, they are astronomically high.
