How many active sets are there?

I've been seeing the total number of sets increase gradually, up to about 2670 at this point. But how many of them would you say are active? I notice a significant number of sets, particularly towards the bottom which have not been updated in a long time. And quite a few just added one or two coins, possibly just for the fun of it and haven't done anything since.

I doubt that everyone who listed a set at one time deleted it when they decided not to pursue the matter any further. How many of these are just dead weight on the stats? Sure PCGS can brag about the constantly growing of Registry participants, but how many are really serious?

Jon: First thing to know is that there is slightly less than 1000 DIFFERENT PEOPLE in the Registry right now as I recall. That seems intersting to me. Of these 1,000, my guess is no more than a couple hundred are collectors intending to complete a set in the very near future. I agree with you that the vast majority are folks who have registered a coin or two, or have no intention of trying to achieve a "top 10" set. On the other hand, a couple hundred serious collectors is a significant number, especially because these folks tend to collect MANY sets at the same time.

In short, I do see sizeable growth in the Registry field and the fact that 600 or 700 collectors are "putting their toe in the water" is also a good thing. A % of these collectors will decide to pursue their Registry collections more actively in the years ahead image Wondercoin.

    Hi Jon:
In the Mercury Dime Series there is only one Set that has had No Activity at all. All of the Other Sets have been Up-Grading or adding on a Regular basis. Some Way To Regular.image
It would be sort of Neat if PCGS could do as NGC has and put a Date of the Last Addition somewhere on the Front Page.

I've personally got 6 or 7 different variations on Type sets because PCGS split them so many different ways.
