I love the 80's PART 2: Saturday Rip 1982-1989

So I had fun ripping packs last night and decided to go for Round #2. Here is the lineup:

(3) 1982 Donruss Wax Packs
(3) 1983 Fleer Cello Packs
(1) 1984 Topps Rack Pack
(1) 1985 Donruss Rack Pack
(3) 1986 Topps Wax Packs
(1) 1987 Donruss Blister Rack Pack
(3) 1989 Fleer 1st Print Wax Packs

Last night delivered a nice 85D Eric Davis RC and an 83F Ryne Sandberg RC. Here's to hoping even more rookies will be found in this round. Thanks to those who view!

I blame this all on Tim.

And miles to go before I sleep,

I blame this all on Tim too image Since he has cornered the market on 1981 Topps vending, I had to fill in the gaps from 1982-1989.

Let's just say that the 1989's were not a classic start. However, the Eric Davis love continues from last night. Now I am just hoping that the Tony Gwynn love is in the 1983 Fleer's too.

Thanks goodness I put away a couple of those 1981 Topps Baseball vending boxes as I think we will see a run on them after the last few box breaks.

Thanks again for the weekend entertainment!!! image

So I just realized I don't have any 1988 in this run. Thankfully that means there isn't any of it in my collection image Though I must admit I did have a thing for Mark Grace and Greg Jefferies back in the day. So no major rookie love in the 1987 Donruss. I do remember when this Canseco 2nd year sold for $8 though...any takers?

Okay...I know that 1986 Topps is basically worthless, but I simply love this set design. This could be a good sign for the 1983 Fleer that the Tony Gwynn love continues. I am also a big fan of this Strawberry card.

Mark Grace was huge around here in AZ for years. With the Cubs spring training and Gracie coming over to the Dbacks for a while in the early 2000's - THEN - taking the Dbacks game announcer role - he was top of the bill around here image Unfortunate he then decided to drive around town all buzzed all the time. image

Yeah...Grace couldn't figure out to call a car service once drunk. Even with all that money. I met him at a signing back in 1989 and he was a very gracious signer and very personable. It is a shame he did not get more consideration for the HOF considering he had more hits than anyone else during the decade of the 1990's (didn't even get 5% on his first ballot attempt). I am not saying he should be in the HOF, but he should have stuck around on ballots longer.

At any rate, here is the first legit hit of the day. Kirby was a monster back in the day. He was taken too soon.

Got to take a break for a little bit since my daughter is dying to play with me. I will rip the 1982-1984 packs a little later today. Thanks to all those contributing to the dialogue on a lovely Saturday afternoon.

Oh yeah...and I was going to give Mike a shout out for a Seaver sighting, except that's not Tom.

Sorry for the long delay. The play time with my daughter turned in to going out to dinner. Now back for the rest of the rip from 1982-1984.

I feel like this worked well with Tim's solid 1970's rips. I had the mid/late 80's set out as the appetizer, Tim offered the main course with some 72OPC, 78T and 79T and now I will offer the light night cap of 1982-1984.

Not much to speak of in the 1984 rack. I do like the often forgotten Andy Van Slyke RC, but that is certainly nothing to get excited about.

Do love me some 84 Topps. I like how the design seemed to lend itself to a bigger player images!!

Looks like the previous Gwynn love ran out when it came to the 83F. No big rookies in these three cellos, but the Rickey and Scioscia look like solid 10's. Rickey like Rickey!

And to close out the rip, a special Seaver sighting for Mike image

Who cares about Henderson, just look at that Seaver. What a million dollar smile.

Seriously, thanks for sharing the rip and good luck with any submissions. image

Thanks for the entertainment on the rip. I enjoyed looking back at some of the great cards of the 80's. Maybe you should make this a weekly thing?? image
