Card Storage Safety (please advise)

I wanted to reach out to get an opinion from the veterans out there. I am building a personal graded card collection and was wondering what the safest way to store these cards would be. Are the cards protected well in a safe or are they subject to mold? Please advise as to the safest long term storage option. Thanks!
