PWCC all buy-it-now's?

Just noticed that they listed a couple of hundred auctions, all of them are buy-it-now. Did they get caught do something bad?

Don't question PWCC on a public forum!!!!

Or you'll end up like me... an upstanding eBay member, with perfect multi-thousand feedback, always pays for the items they win, interested in some of the stuff PWCC has up for sale...

but BLOCKED from purchasing from them image

if you are in the consignment business, limiting your paying customer base makes little sense.

I think most sellers are starting to go away from auctions on ebay
I edit almost all my posts because my auto correct is crazy !
  • I noticed that last night, too--they had some Kershaw cards listed as buy it now and I thought it was weird.

I checked the Auction Report website though and it looks like PWCC is scheduled to have an auction running on ebay in a few days.

The PWCC website lists the first three ebay auction dates, too. So, it looks like they may just have some customers who want to consign in fixed price formats for whatever reason...

I just consigned about 200 items to PWCC for the upcoming auction--I think that these are specific to the consigners as was just said since mine will be straight auction format
  • Hi All,

I just spoke with Brent from PWCC. This is a side group of cards he is running as an experiment for a few clients. His #1 auction starts on the 27th and has over 6000 lots.

  • Running auctions right now on eBay can get you killed. The searches just are not coming around like they used to. This could be the beginnings of a sinking ship (eBay)....ah it was good while it lasted. I think auction houses will continue to strengthen and it seems like both buyers and sellers are jumping ship. I am an eBay power seller with a great track record, but I do recognize their ridiculous changes over the last 3-4 years have only started the demise IMO.

Besides the very top of the auction houses like Heritage, I don't think most of the auction houses can compete with ebay in the long run. The Ebay model is changing and adjustments will be made by both buyers and sellers. The only time I run auctions are for cards that I just want to clear out. Even JaMarcus Russell and Brady Quinn autos can be sold on ebay for a few bucks, no other venue can do that. For the quality items, BIN is the way to go and wait it out. There are many buyers out there willing to pay a few more bucks for quality and convenience.

Like many have mentioned the problem I see with eBay right now is that fewer auctions are being offered - I can see both sides of the argument on this.
BIN's are for the most part being used as showcases (707 style) with record setting asking prices.

I think the market will eventually dry up and BIN's will eventually loosen up back to reality.

Or there will be an all out buyer/seller revolutionary war image

  • Alot of sellers are leaving, therefore alot of material that used to be competitive on ebay is leaving. Most private collectors are consigning to AH now when liquidating. Ebay has not near the quality of vintage items it did in the past. What sellers are left eBay is bleeding dry in fees because buyers have slowed up due to less material, higher BIN prices they are not going to pay, etc. I would imagine it is a sinking ship atleast in the collectibles side. They need a good rival and until both buyers and sellers agree and support that, then it will be a slow bleedout. Then perhaps a re-birth of smaller shows across the country, shops, and more AHs. Perhaps Amazon will pick up steam. They should have left it an auction only site.

  • All,

I am trying to provide a good alternative to both eBay and online auction houses with my website www.collectorsector.com I don't have an auction format but I do have fixed price as well as "For Bid" formats that just allow a buyer to do exactly that--shoot over an offer to a seller just as one might do at a card show in person. I don't have nearly the traffic the other sites do yet because I just launched but I'm hoping my seller fee structure (3.5% of final value which I cap at no more than $100) will allow reasonable fixed price listings. You could sell a 1952 Mantle Rookie graded PSA 10 on my site and I would only charge $10. Do you all think this is enough to attract buyers and sellers to my site or am I missing something? Any feedback you all can offer would be much appreciated. I have tried very hard to keep the collector in mind with my site structure and fee structure---because I am a huge collector myself.

You're missing something. For starters, millions of dollars for advertising...
  • Maurice,

Agreed--it would definitely be nice to have a multi-million dollar advertising budget. Seeing as though I don't have that, though, what about if I offered to let people sell for free for an extended amount of time (6 months, 8 months, or longer) to drive traffic and build up a good base of collectors? I may pose this question in the buy/sell forum to gauge interest as well.

There have been (and perhaps still are) auction sites that are totally free. I can't even remember the names of them because I haven't used them in years, and I don't think anyone else has either.
  • True--sports card collector traffic on those sites is low. In my opinion, though, as a collector myself I was never drawn to those sites because they were not focused enough on collectors and were just kind of a cheaper version of eBay and loaded with anything and everything. Take a site like COMC--it seems to have done very well and found a niche. That is more of what I'm going for--I think having a solid base of collectors on my site with great cards, great articles & discussion would be of value to collectors--something they couldn't get on free auction sites.
