Shipping Cost question - Probstein BIN - opinions wanted on EBay rating - RESOLVED BY PROBSTEIN (THA

EDITED ON 1-22-14: Just got a refund sent to me. I do appreciate the responses that have been sent to me.

I am looking for opinions on what you guys would do. I am putting together a PSA 8 1965 Topps baseball set. For Valentines Day, my wife grabbed my book and ordered 3 cards from Probstein off of EBay from my bookmarks. She did not request a shipping total because she is not aware she had to. She was charged $10.50 for shipping (instead of $4 or so). I have sent 2 emails requesting a shipping refund from Probstein through EBay. So far, I have received no response from them. The cards have arrived and my wife gave them to me because she is disgusted over the situation. The cards look great. I'm trying to decide what to do. Option 1 - give a negative due to lack of communication and no refund given. Option 2 - give a neutral rating and low individual ratings for communication and shipping. Option 3 - its only $6 (although the purchase was less than $50), just forget it and give no rating.

What would you do?

Understandable that your wife was not aware of requesting combined shipping.
I would try emailing him or messaging him here as he's a forum member.

As for leaving feedback, I'd chalk it up as a learning experience and not the fault of anyone.

I'd be patient and see what happens before leaving feedback. How long has it been without a reply to your email? Unless the cards were shipped separately for some reason, then I would certainly expect a $6 refund. I give refunds on shipping whether the buyer requests combined shipping or not.

Usually, he will send an invoice with discounted shipping for multiple items the day after the auctions end.

He should issue a partial refund to you since you did overpay.

He reads these forums pretty regularly so hopefully he will make it right.

Option 3 move on and don't waste your time worrying about being out $6 .

Your other option is to not buy from the seller again, if they don't refund you.
  • In big blue letters in his auctions:

Probstein123 reduces shipping costs if you win multiple auctions ! Please wait for the invoice

Don't give him a negative or neutral because your wife didn't read the auction. Just don't leave feedback if you are that mad about it. Or call the number listed in his auctions.

While I am certainly no advocate of Probstein's operations, their team is typically very responsive. I am sure if you can get in touch with them, they will make this right and refund the difference.

    You can try e-mailing: rickprobstein@gmail.com

Or give them a call: +1.973.594.8222

I think leaving any kind of feedback without being able to speak with them about the situation first would be premature.

  • Good cover story with the wife and Valentine's Day. Haven't seen that one. At least now you know that you need to ask for a total before paying. Glad it worked out.

    From all of his auctions.

"Probstein123 reduces shipping costs if you win multiple auctions ! please wait for the invoice ...."

He has always responded to my e-mails in a timely manner. I'd e-mail him a third time with your issue.
I thought it was just men that didn't read directions! Is your wife disgusted at Probstein or at herself for not reading the
    auction listing?

  • I think Probstein should respond to your email and give you a $6 refund, but he has no obligation to do so.

And I don't think you should damage his feedback if he doesn't. It was your mistake. You chose to not wait for the combined shipping invoice.

Edited to add: I just noticed the OP's edit. Glad this worked out.

  • hi everyone...

here is our official shipping policy:

yes , we reduce shipping on all unpaid orders....
the reduced shipping price depends on the precise variables...
once you pay for an order , ebay requires us to ship the item....
we allow up to 10 days to combine for reduced shipping...
please wait for us to send an invoice or request an invoice prior to payment....
thanks for the interest and happy bidding !!!

Glad it worked out. Good customer service by Probstein to make things good on the combined shipping. There are the occasional posts on here that knock him as a seller but I have only had great experiences with him on eBay. Great seller in my book.

Probstein does have very good customer service.
    IMO better than PWCC.

A problem that is not mentioned is rick sometimes has auctions that are BIN and you can't buy unless
you pay at once. So you could have paid for 3 auctions on 3 BIN's.
To avoid that you need to add to your cart to get a combined invoice.

Wish my wife would do that
