Currently reading the 2010 biography about Roger Maris.

I'm about 1/3 done. Really basic guy for the most part with a couple of complicated layers to him. It's hard to like him after reading about his constant complaining to Indians & A's management about playing time & salary seemingly every year.

On the other hand, his teammates spoke of him glowingly. Uniform in their praise for him. And what kind of dad runs around saying older brother was better even after it was clear he wasn't?

It's certainly heightened my interest in his cardboard.

His salary when he went to the Yankees was $15k. Never made more than $75k in his career. Not a lot to live on when you retire at age 34.
