Had to get a PO Box today

So, this is a rant. Feel free to ignore. I ended up getting a PO box today because my mail service is so horrible that I can't keep getting mad at sellers, since it's not their fault in the end, that my stuff isn't getting delivered. I've filed 4 complaints against my post office and nothing has happened. Now when I come in they give me the stink eye. So I got a PO box in the next town over (just an extra 5 minutes from where I live) so I can get my cards. I shouldn't have to do this to get my mail.

My delivery lady is great, but some of the other staff there...not so much. Whenever she's gone on vacation or sick I never get my stuff.

Ugh...

You have filed multiple complaints against your local post office and are surprised they are not happy to see you?
Not sure what the back story is but why did you think complaint #4 would be resolved any differently than complaint #3?

My mail lady seems nice but she is lazy. If I am not home when she tries to deliver a package she will usually just leave it on the hood of my truck.

  • To be honest, I feel like I'm kinda being held hostage. So I just took matters into my own hands. Our post office is one of the worst in our area. I was bringing quite a bit of money to them and all I expected was for them to do their jobs...nothing more, nothing less. Any time I would deal with them I kept getting the run around so I finally gave up and just got a box somewhere else.

The supervisor and manager have lied to me on several occasions, which is not cool. I want to give everyone the benefit of the doubt, but when I have multiple things happening and people being dishonest with me I had to do something.

Also, I know I'm not the only one in my area. Most of the people on my street have filed complaints as well as numerous people in our community. I do draw the line at being mean. I've never been mean and have always tried to give them multiple chances. I just couldn't do it anymore. Not worth me stressing over and getting caught up in.

I feel for you and I don't blame you for getting a PO box. You can complain up the chain, but considering the post office has a strong union and has a monopoly over your actual mailbox, change would probably happen at a glacial pace.

Just curious, is your PO box at an actual US Post Office or is it one offered through a third party, such as Mail Boxes Etc, the UPS Store, etc?

I feel for you. My regular delivery person is good also. Any replacement sucks. The in-post office workers are beyond incompetent most of the time. As for complaints, they shouldn't give you the stink eye for filing complaints. Regardless of how many. They have a job to do. If they don't do it properly, what do they expect? If I don't do something correct in my profession I expect to hear about it and hear some complaining. Then it's my job to damn well correct the problem on my end. There's my rant on the subject.

I've had good and bad in various LA neighborhoods. Where I used to live in Rosemead there was actually a postal employee stealing mail(it made the news at the time).

In another area, mail only arrived every other day...the mailman was visiting someone for 4-5 hours every afternoon(I'd see his truck parked in the same spot every afternoon). So he delivered to only half the houses each day.

When I lived in FL, we were in the outer suburbs but our mail carriers were rural route carriers. They were all contractors, drove their own vehicles with the sign in the window saying "US Mail Carrier". It seemed like we had a different person every month and they were constantly making mistakes. We'd get neighbors mail and vice versa on a regular basis. I recall even getting mail from people who lived in other parts of town, several miles away. Still not sure how they botched that so bad. Can't recall any packages going missing, although I wasn't doing much with cards or coins back then, so I wasn't getting those items shipped to me.

Now that we live in Maryland, we are in more of a true suburb and have standard mail carriers, the ones that are employees and drive the actual postal trucks. So far so good. We get the occasional piece of mail for a neighbor, but it's uncommon and it's always been for someone on our street.

I am in the same spot. Although I let my neighbor file the complaints. I routinely have envelopes crushed in my mailbox. Plus, my mail regularly arrives between 6 and 7 PM. The record was set this December when it arrived at 8:30 PM. I work from home, so I need the mail to do business in addition to the important collectibles stuff I get. I lose a whole business day by not having it arrive until then. The one time I did call and complain, I told them I am willing to have it delivered that late half the time. But the other parts of town need to share the burden and have it delivered later the other half. Not surprisingly, nothing has changed.
  • 7pm? wow I didn't know they delivered mail that late lol. I get mine in the mornings.

I use a post box in the next town over. Man, I feel lucky to have the best postmaster around. I can tell her in advance when something big is coming and she's looking out for me. If she's there, I can get packages after closing. And she doesn't allow incompetence among her staff and she has gotten after the sorting center for incompetency.
