Clayton Kershaw Cards

I've bought a few Clayton Kershaw autos recently and I think his cards are undervalued on the whole, although they seem to be gaining momentum by the day. I think he has the potential to be one of the best pitchers of all time. He's only 25 and has already established himself as the premier pitcher in the league. Winning 2 Cy Youngs and leading the entire MLB in ERA for the last 3 years is astounding. What do you guys think about investing now in Kershaw Cards and which ones would you buy?

  • I totally agree. I'm keeping an eye out for a few 2006 Bowman Chrome autos. I don't think you could go wrong with any of them to be honest. He may still be pretty young, but he's already building quite a resume. Sky is the limit as long as he can stay healthy.

I'm trying to find a PSA 10 of his 2008 Topps UH "official" rookie card. There are only 6 of them! Amazing.

Pitchers always seem to take forever to capture our imagination.

Great player for sure. If you want to get his cards as a fan that is great and if you are getting his card for a personal/player collection with an eye towards possible returns that is certainly a decent plan. If you are looking at it as a straight investment I am personally leery about investing in cards of active pitchers as the risk of attrition is great. Tim Lincecum was off to a similar start to his career before he went off the rails. Arm injuries are just too prevalent with pitchers these days. With active players all it takes is an injury, a downward performance trend or a PED scandal to cause their card values to plummet. Just my opinion though. Good luck with your collecting and I hope you find a good deal on your card.

The thing with Lincecum was that it was never really an injury issue. Just a slow and mysterious degrading of his pitching mechanics that took away the mid-high 90s fastball he once threw at will.
