FYI. As of 26 Jan 2014...
First-Class Mail® Forever® Stamps will be $0.49 and...
Appears the biggest hike is in the small weight stuff...which sucks for those pushing cards around the USA.
Effectively, if you are shipping a single card in packaging less than 3 oz via ebay (printing postage online), you pay $1.93+10%(ebay fees)+3%(paypal fees)=$2.19 (rounded up). If shipping paypal invoice only (printing postage online), then you are looking at $1.93+3%(paypal fees)=$1.99 (rounded up). Note: this does not include the cost of procuring your packaging.

<< <i>Well that sucks... about 90% of my shipping is of the 3oz or under variety. >>
Same here!
<< <i>Does suck, majority of my mailings are also under 3 oz. Oh well! >>
I think this is a prob for nearly all of us : (
Bubble Mailers: $.08
Shipping Labels: $.08
Ink: Around $.10
Total: $2.19
I charge $3.00 for the first three cards and $.50 for each after up to $5.00 so I should be good. I'll probably raise my rates if it starts to reach the $2.50 per package.

$1.93 online postage for 3 oz or less.
.14 Mailer ( I use O size mailers) and buy 1000 at a time in bulk. Smaller mailers cost less.
.15 variable misc. costs includes (ink for laser printer, paper, tape for label), I tape my labels onto the mailer.
.30 flat off the top paypal fee on every transaction
.70 paypal takes 2.2 to 2.9% of final sales amount, so this amount is variable. Figuring here on a $25 card with $3 shipping at 2.5%.
.30 10% ebay take, they cut out of every shipping amount, assuming your charging $3 for shipping here.
-----------------
$3.22 total real cost for selling a $25 card with $3 shipping. This amount doesn't factor in the ebay final value fee either
which is 9-11% of the sale amount. On a $25 card at 11% .... you can also subtract $2.75 from your bottom line.
So when sellers are charging $3-4 for shipping one graded card, I don't think that the shipping amount is too high.... going forward. TextText

well said
<< <i>I only use online postage (through Paypal or USPS.com) so those prices above are what I get. I save a ton of money by NOT going to the actual post office. >>
Same...99% of the time I print via paypal comm based s/h. No reason to waste extra dimes in line at the post office
Anyway, using cardbender's example with the $25 sale and $3 shipping charge, your ebay fees are $2.80, and your Paypal fees are $1.11, making your total fees $3.91. Add in your $0.29 for office supplies and you're at $4.20 off your initial $25.00 sale price.
<< <i>I printed a label today for 3 oz and it was only 1.76 >>

<< <i>Just to clarify....there is a difference in the postage you buy through ebay and the actual postage you get at the post office. I use ebay shipping as much as possible and it is a little less but for those that use the PO to purchase their shipping it is the full value >>
Plus with ebay shipping you don't have to stand in line at the PO which is the absolute worst.
Most of my stuff is a few dollars per listing. This absolute kills any kind of profit as I need to raise shipping to at least $2.25 and with fees in the end I will only actually get about $1.20 to .80 profit.

The thing that eases my mind is that I have to remember that eBay gives me an opening to thousands upon thousands of potential customers, so the profit tradeoff isn't so bad. If I tried saving on shipping by setting up at the local flea market, I would soon be logging back onto eBay where I actually sell stuff.
