What's the consensus on gold pesos?

Shopping around at provident this evening and noticed that .24/oz pesos are around $318 and .25/oz age are
almost $30 more. Why? Discuss.

$12.50 of the spread is due to the weight difference. Balance is most likely a market preference for American coinage.

The cheaper the better, and circ gold is always cool.

Supply and Demand. There is a lot more demand for AGEs than for pesos. I love them both though. image

This. And the fact that the weight of the 10 Pesos is in metric, 7.5 grams pure vs. the American 0.25 ounce pure, and Americans don't do metric.

It's a demand issue, as others have said -- more demand for AGEs by US collectors.

Maybe the better comparison is old pesos versus US pre-1933 circulating. there's much less of a premium on pesos than pre-1933 US gold. that's a good thing if you want to stack some old circulating gold. but yeah, you have to do some math to figure out the melt value of the coins. but that same is true for pre-33 US gold, which has fractional amounts of gold rather than round numbers like AGEs.

The British Sovereign and the French 20 Francs used to be the kings of the small gold market, and the Mexican 50 Pesos and the Austro-Hungarian 100 Coronas the large gold market. Then the Krugerrand came in with an even ounce and it blew the old gold out of the water. People don't like to do math. Many of them can't.
