When did they start grading these ?

I've been out of the loop for a while but I didn't know they had started grading toys, Pretty darn cool looking I must say.

I just discovered that too. Recently had a death in the family and was going through his house with my Dad trying to help my aunt sort it all out. Turns out, he kept boxes and boxes of all original 1977 Kenner Star Wars toys and action figures in their boxes with directions and decals and everything. Also was a member of the Fan Club and literally kept everything they sent him in the original packaging. So I started doing some research and discovered that they slab all of this stuff (actually, I don't think they'll slab the Millenium Falcon or larger vehicles like that. But still pretty cool. We're going to go through and try to identify everything and then send it all to Hake's.
  • Don't know when they started, but they've been grading for at least several years now. Star Wars, Transformers, GI Joe, He-Man are very popular. Originally they only graded the sealed in package items, and more recently they added an option for grading loose/opened items as well. I don't collect toys, but I have owned a few pieces in the past and they do display nicely in the cases.

Reggie - They'll slab the larger playsets including the Falcon.
  • AFA is big in toy grading. Been around for awhile.

They grade the very popular McFarlane sports figures. See them on Ebay a lot.

The grading is very spendy though and shipping adds up with large packages.

    Sorry for your loss.
  • I noticed in the past year or so toys were being graded. I recently sold off my Star Wars collection. All loose with only a few weapons. I think it was about 40 or 50 figures for $130. If I had the weapons, the price would be double or more.

My dad held onto all my He-Man, Transformers, and GI Joe's from when I was a kid. I wanted to trash them, and he wouldn't let me.

I should check eBay and see what coulda been had I kept em in packages.
