There is a bunch of 78 and 79 racks ending on eBay in the next hour....

I am still not used to seeing 1979 racks selling for so much. Crazy.

Ps - I am not the seller.

Strong prices but still lower than what BBCE had them listed at last time they were available on the site.

  • I saw that golden_oldies_256 was selling many of them. They all seem to be terribly off-center on the front and back. Is that normal for those years?

Not terribly uncommon, particularly for cards on back. The far right cell is usually the one most OC in 78 and 79 racks.

  • Thanks. Let me ask you this then, do you think these packs all came from the same case then since they are all consistently way off on the fronts?

I looked again at the completed listings and you can even see cards were pushed up or down reveling the edge of the card below, which was similarly off-center.

It almost looks to me like the seller bought a "bad" case, saw that the first few packs were all off-center, and then decided to sell off the rest to recoup their loses. What a move if this is what why did as they are certainly making out like a bandit! Though I feel sorry for anyone buying these packs hoping to find nicely centered cards.

This kind of reminds me of the 75 mini cases I read about, where any of a particular serial were to be avoided. Seems the same could said by just looking at the racks, though I really have no idea.

Top centering is not always indicative of centering throughout the cell. I can't tell you how many times I've opened a rack or cello where top card was nicely centered and the cards behind it weren't or vice versa. There's no way to know by simply looking at top cards to make that determination.

  • Right, that holds true for much of the 60s product, whenever I've been lucky enough to see any, that I've enjoyed.

What I'm saying though, is that you can clearly see in some of the scans that cards beneath the facing ones, both back and front, follow the same kind of centering. At the very least I'd say that's not a good sign of things to come.

It just seems odd to me that people are spending so much when you can already see that many of the cards are badly centered. Though since it's so hard to find these packs anymore I guess people might be in desperatation mode ... or have so much money they don't care either way. Sure wish I was the latter!

The vast majority of 75 mini wax boxes are filled with OC cards yet prices have gone well north of 2k on those boxes. The value of the item for vintage unopened at least often exceeds the sum of its parts.
