1972 Topps Football (series 2) rack pack break

I opened a 1972 Topps Football (series 2) rack pack last night - and wanted to share the results. The beauty of this particular series is that it's comprised of just over 100 cards, including the Roger Staubach rookie, Terry Bradshaw second year card, Emmitt Thomas rookie, Unitas, Butkus, Gene Upshaw rookie, Blanda & Joe Greene. Each rack pack has 54 cards in it - so you've got approximately a 50% chance of pulling any of those cards.

Not a bad section for quarterbacks! The centering was rough - but the star power was obviously strong! The Staubach is sharp, but would pull a straight PSA 7.
Section 2 yielded the following:
Much better centering in the second section, but the star power wasn't as good.
Section 3 yielded the following:
The Bradshaw and Greene look really nice. The Greene looks like it has a wavey top border in the pic - but that just my picture.
Thanks for letting me share! Gotta run and take care of some family business for a few hours!
Jeff
You should upload this one to PackGeek.com!!
Hope you get a centered Staubach! Did you see what the last PSA 10 sold for?
Edit to add: It's all over before I even typed this post, LOL!

<< <i>Wow, now that's a vintage rip!! If it were a 72 baseball rack, I'd shed a tear or two, but football? Go ahead and RIP, LOL!

Haha - thanks, Tim!! Sorry I didn't drag this one out more - but I thought I'd just cut to the chase since it wasn't live.
I appreciate the comments, friends - it was obviously an exciting pack to rip. Big props to JMoran on his prediction of what this pack may hold. His streak continues.
Jeff
Wish the centering were better - but ya did pull some nice players.
Look how old Blanda looked in '72 and he both quarterbacked and kicked! I was a Raider fan back then - very familiar with his on-field escapades. Lamonica was starting with Blanda backing.
Thanx for sharing. I always enjoy the rips.
And here's your complimentary Rachael Rip Girl!
They call me "Pack the Ripper"
Luckily - I have my very own rip girl! When my wife and I were first dating, she found out I collected baseball cards and showed me a video she hosted (she works in TV) for Topps at a local card shop where she was basically a rip girl. She cheered as these old guys opened expensive packs of cards. She thought it was weird, but a fun gig for the day. I bet she never imagined she'd end up marrying a guy that opens packs like that at home. Poor girl.
Jeff
Nice rip glad you had a little luck with it. To bad on the Roger Stauback .
<< <i>Nice pulls. What would be nice is getting three racks and pulling the entire second series in one night. Thanks for sharing. >>
I actually bought four for that reason, but after the luck I had in the first pack - I might be greedy opening the other three.
Jeff
How is the centering of the cards showing in the other three racks? Did the Carnac the Magnificent make any predictions for you?

Yeah, but can Carnac predict centering??

He was pretty close on that prediction too, believe it or not. I just chose not to heed that warning. Thank you Mr. Bradshaw & Greene.

Carnac is the magnificent then! LOL!
The Bradshaw is PSA 9 material, imo. And yours doesn't have a water stain on the corner, either ...

Not this rack, LOL. I was talking about the other three rack packs Jeff alluded to.

<< <i>I plan to rip one more, and save two of the racks. And I'm thinking Rack #1 is probably going down in the next couple of days. >>
The centering does seem to nice on that one Jeff. Carnac has learned the hard way not to mess with the centering gods.

Unfortunately, the highlight of section one ended up being the Gene Upshaw rookie that was showing on the back. A little star power - but nothing too impressive.
Jeff
The middle section was much better in terms of centering. And I pulled a nice looking card of the guy from The Naked Gun.
Jeff
Well... these two cards were the highlight of the last section. It's been fun opening these packs - and I bought four of them intending to open them all, but I don't think I'll be able to bring myself to open the last two.
Thanks for letting me share these, guys!

Lance Alworth, the NFL's only 180 lb. TE.
Football:
1971 - 125+ cards w/ Unitas, Bradshaw, Starr and Namath all in great condition
1972 - 750+ cards all Series 1 w/ too many great condition cards to know where to start, but I think I most Stars in 8 - sharp corners, good to great centering
1973 - 200+ cards w/ Shell, Staubach, Anderson and Bradshaw
If anyone is interested in more detailed info or seeing some pics, please let me know. I don't have scan capability, but will try to figure out a way to post a few shots.
Also interested in what these 72 racks sell for now a days.
