Question about Jeter 93 SP RC, 8.5 or 9

I'm considering purchasing one of these for my collection.
Is there really a difference between all of the PSA 8.5's I see and a PSA 9? There seems to be quite a large spread in dollars for half a point.

Would appreciate opinions from those who know.

IMHO the diff between a 9 and 10 is so hard to tell.

Diff from a 8 and 9 can be seen. However some 8's got you thinking what's wrong with this card? Why not higher.

However a 8.5 is supposed to be much closer to a 9 than an 8.

Most of the 8.5's I have are better than 8's but a much better value vs buying the 9.

A very nice 8 can be had for about $140 and low end one for $100.

If you can get a 8.5 for much less than a 9 I would definately do that.

This card is condition sensitive....why a 9 and 10 get what they do....

However, the demand is there as Jeter is one of the more popular players ever !!!!

There is still romm left for the card to go upwards as he is closing in on the HOF.

here is VCP to help you out.

If you're going for value, a really sharp PSA 8 is your best value for appearance at the price point. If you're after the "Wow" factor, a PSA 9 holds a little more mystique, but the cost versus appearance doesn't really add up. If the choice is between the a PSA 8.5 or a PSA 9, and you're on the fence, I'd just get the best looking PSA 8 I can find. I've never been impressed with the $250 PSA 8.5's that I've seen when comparing them to a PSA 8 for $100+ or a PSA 9 for $1000+.

First time seeing the recent prices on this card. Happy I got my 9 when I did.

I may start looking to pick up some nice looking 8's.

Does BGS grade easier on this particular card than PSA? I'm thinking of cracking my 7s out, and sending them in to get graded elsewhere. I hate 7s.

Thanks Jay for the insight and VCP history, i'll give it some thought and let the card sell itself when the opportunity comes.
Seems really difficult buying this card online without seeing the surface in detail.

Taking the grades at their face value, BGS is an easier company to do better than an 8 on. But, if you're submitting cards that got 7s by PSA, you probably won't get much better than a 7.5 at BGS.

Just looking at some "completed listings" on Ebay and it appears BGS 9's have been going for under $300. Why is it that PSA 9's are going for 3x that amount? Isn't BGS the "grader of preference" for modern cards?

Probably the the perception that there's less than a full card in some of the higher grade BGS holders...

It also seems that there are a lot of BGS 9's listed, and very few PSA 9's. That is why I was thinking that BGS may be more lenient on this card.

Ran across a couple of raw 93 sp Jeter's today. Any idea how critical the grading is on this card with a vertical print line in the foil (point deductions or let it fly)? It's not visible unless tilted in the light. I've seen similar on the Finest Refractors but not the foil SPs.

    Thanks,

    David (LD_Ferg)
