1990 Fleer Soaring Stars Griffey

By any chance, does someone have a PSA 9 or PSA 10 copy of this card that they would share the image of? I'm trying to get an idea of how the card is supposed to be centered. Thanks!

Just do an ended item's search for "1990 soaring stars psa" and you'll see a few 9s of other cards in the set pop up.

Thanks, was only searching the Griffey. If I had a brain I'd be dangerous.

    PSA 8

This was the highest one I could find on EBAY. I will check the registry and see if I can find one for your there.

Only 2 PSA 10's out of 115 graded. Looks like a tough card in a 10.

I would guess it would be centered better than 60/40 . . . Now, get off my lawn. image

Well, check out Mr. Smartypants. It's a weird card, Scott. There's a border on one side and it's not immediately apparent how far away from the edge of the card it should be. So there! image

Yeah, it took me a while to figure out which 1990 Fleer cellos they were inserted into. I've opened a few boxes and the SS cards are just hammered, Dinged Corner City. Just picked up a case and thinking about doing some ripping.

    Hey thats my card.... lol

One of my favorites for sure.. I wish Fleer didnt stop making those boxed sets and inserts like this.
Griffey missed it by a couple three years...

As far as the centering goes I like mine but it could be a little more higher I guess..

Anything different about the Blue, Red or Green Boxes on the Cellos as far as content?

    Thanks

The blue cellos (red box) are 33 card cellos. The green cellos (green box) are 43 card cellos, and can be found in either clear cellophane or solid mylar wrapping. It is my belief that Soaring Stars are only available in the solid green mylar packages (which, coincidentally, are the toughest to find). I don't believe there's any way to search them. All the SS I've pulled have been underneath the three sticker cards.

I saw that when I snagged the link. Nice card. I think this one looks very cool.

What were the odds of pulling this insert set from a pack? I notice there are only 115 graded and that seems a little low at first glance.

I don't have a large enough sample size under my belt yet to speculate on odds. Perhaps someone else has ripped a bunch and has a better idea.

ETA: The low submission could also be due to the condition of the cards coming out of the packs. The best ones I've pulled would be a PSA 7, at best. All of them off-center with dinged corners. The tight mylar wrap was not kind on these cards.

Not sure ? Its not rare by any stretch but its a neat early Griffey.

Always liked that card. A kid in my neighborhood had it and we thought it was up there with bigfoot in the hard to find category. If only you could own one... Used to book for $25 I think.
Always looking for 1993-1999 Baseball Finest Refractors and1994 Football Finest Refractors.

From what Mr. Smartypants remembers, the card, if perfectly centered, will have the the top of the "FLEER 90" and the tip of the right star the same distance from the top edge as the bottom of the nameplate is from the bottom edge. While the left/right centering will have the outer tips of the stars equidistant from the edges. The implied centering is similar with the rest of the cards in the issue although some player images extend beyond the implied centering "keys." As I recall, there were also some issues with tilt and miscuts.

Just hit a 10 on this card and will probably sell it. Any idea of value nowadays?

Has one ever sold, don't see a sale in the PSA report.... A PSA 9 is $60-$90. Maybe $1k? Nothing like a $1 starting price auction to find out!!

That is a great looking card. Fleer had some great inserts from 1990-1996

I broke a ton of this box type 10-15 years back. The collation for the Soaring Stars was awful. Either I would get one or none in a box or five or six and there would be doubles. Two Ricky Jordan, two Larry Walker and one Jim Abbot for example.

    Walker and Abbott sound good.

Work hard and you will succeed!!

Sure but not when you are buying to hunt for nice Griffeys (and Venturas for the PC). With the collation the way it is, somebody out there got a box with a few Griffeys.
