Anyone rip 1960 Topps/OPC Tattoos? Tricks to avoid paper loss?

I have a few 1960 Tattoos that I'm considering opening. Are there any tricks to avoid paper loss on the tattoo while opening?

I have a set of the 1960 Tattoos, which includes several unopened packs since it is easy to tell what is depicted on the backside of the wrappers without opening them. I always get a kick out of sellers selling "unopened" packs with a "Mantle possible ?" since it is so easy to know what is in an unopened pack. But I have never bothered to fully open the unopened packs I have. I guess I would slide the gum out and then steam the unopened wrapper ?

I also have a 64 Tatoo set, and have always wondered why they changed the designation from Tattoo to Tatoo.... just an unnoticed error ?

Nice Mantles!! Yes, I slid the gum out & know exactly who it is. Has anyone tried using steam on these before?

Never tried steam, but seems more likely to either warp the paper or smear the image.

If you're set on opening the package, I'd just cut it with a scissors.

The vertical tear will be on all your packs regardless of how carefully you open them. It's there from how Topps packaged them and not caused from you opening them.
