Don't really hate the university 7 miles down the road, but I cannot name one player on their top ranked basketball team.

When I was 12 years old my beloved Ohio State Buckeyes won the NCAA Basketball Championship. I remember still the elation of the moment. The next year they were upset by the Cincinnati Bearcats in the finals. The following year the same results. The agony of defeat seemed to trump the previous thrill of victory. The hatred I had for the University of Cincinnati was intense. I loved Oscar Robertson but he was not part of those teams. I loved the Cincinnati Reds, but I hated the Bearcats from the bottom of my heart. This continued for many years but as I got into my 40s I realized my hatred was probably illogical and I was able to tone it down to a severe dislike for them. Then some years later my youngest daughter tells me she was accepted into a great engineering school and she was moving to Cincinnati to attend the University of Cincinnati. As I smiled and showed approval with my lips my head was saying "Don't they teach engineering at the Ohio State University?" A few years later I went to her graduation and had to sit in the arena with the NCAA Championship banners from those years staring me in the face. It seemed to me the Lord was telling me something. If He could put up with those jerks I should too. Now I realize it's just kids playing a game, getting a good education and win or lose it is important to show good sportsmanship and character. So now I really don't hate anyone however if any of my grandchildren or great grandchildren decide to go to that State up North for an education they can expect no inheritance.
