1973 Topps Baseball

It's time for more threads about cards, here is my current 1973 Topps baseball set, ~55% done in PSA 8 and higher. Last Clemente, odd action shots, love it!

Love this set!! Love the pic of all the cards. Keep plugging away! I love the Munson in this set

It's not the flashiest of sets, but I do love it. There's in action shots of plays at the plate that rival the 71 Munson. I'm thinking of the Bob Didier and I think the Pat Corrales. I'd love to see scans of those and some of your favorite action shots.

Those four stars are beautiful examples of the grade! That's definitely the way to get the most bang for your buck!

One of my favorite sets of what was a great decade for cards. It's simple but it works. And Topps really stepped up on the shots of the players. Some very interesting action shots and a few horizontal shots mixed in. I've always loved the Rose and Aaron...

8.5's are the way to go. Great value in those...great job

  • Love 1973 set. So many great shots in it.

So their still hasn't been a Reggie Jackson PSA 10 made yet. I wonder what that card would fetch if one ever grades that high. Some of the big dogs in registry would probably dig deep to own it.

Anyone know what Rose and Aaron PSA 10's have sold for in the past. Those are such classic looking photos.

For me the set is so ugly it's cool. I was 11 years old busting packs on my front porch. It was awesome.
Mike I really like those star cards they look great.

Congrats on your set you have going, nice job!!

I too like the little action icons on the cards. I just picked up a Carew action in PSA 8 from a board member.

  • NICE!

Also my favorite set. Finished my PSA 8 and up set about a year ago. I actually miss working on it. Good luck!

It always reminded me of this...which is also pure 1970's...and the name of my set.

Very under-rated set in my opinion along with 74. The action shots on those two sets are some of the best Topps produced.

These cool action shots are why collecting starts with 1971 for me. Those '68-70 sets seem like one headshot with a blanked out cap after another....

Nice set brings back many memories of grabbing some change out of my Mom's purse and riding my bike up to the local store, ripping the packs placing them in my back pocket (yeah I know better now) and before get back home trying to chew all that gum up before Mom would take away or throw it out " ..... Cuz its bad for your teeth honey" LOL the good ol days

Yes, the Bench shot is a classic. Reds fans get paid with that one and Pete Rose. Both beauties.

Don't forget the Boots Day, I think it's a very low pop card that get nice $ in a PSA 9..

Also who is all in the Joe Rudi card?

That isn't Joe Rudi on the 73 card it is Gene Tenace.

LOL, there are 3 guys on the Rudi card, Tenace in the middle, none of them are Rudi though.
  • Who are the other two A's on the card?
  • tennesseebankertennesseebanker Posts: 5,433 ✭✭✭
The two players congratulating Tenace are obscure themselves. Bill Voss (left) was a journeyman outfielder acquired from the Brewers. He played some right field from June to August of 1972. The other player patting Geno on the butt, is the on deck batter, utility infielder Orlando Martinez. He was soon traded to the Rangers for Don Mincher.

Notice Freehan doesn't have the ball in his glove hand while attempting the tag. Was Sanchez safe or out? Answer

That's awesome....I've looked at that card 100 times and never noticed that!
