Cracking the new PSA holders....

...is considerably harder than the old ones. More like cracking an SGC holder. Tougher to get the ol' butter knife between the two layers. With the old ones it was done in 15 seconds....

My wife would flip out if I used one of her "precious" butter knives.
  • Haven't tried the new ones but I have a set of those small eye glass screw drivers. The large flat head in that set works pretty good. Thin and strong.

  • Just cracked my first two and yes they are a bit harder to crack. Which is a good thing I guess.

The bad thing is the absolutely horribly inconsistant grading of the cards Ive been pulling from PSA slabs.

Neither of these were remotely close to being worthy of the Mint 9 grades that were on them.

Why crack them out if they're ugly 9's?

I use a bolt cutter. Takes 10 seconds tops and have not damaged a card yet

Maybe to avoid the "How the heck did that card get a 9???!!!" threads

I prefer high quality raw sets.

The cards in question had surface issues which were not detectable in the seller scans
or through the plastic slabs. Once viewed in proper light it was then obvious whoever
graded them should not be involved in card grading in any aspect.

Fortunately they were commons for my 73 set. Hopefully I get the grader of death next time.
