Grounds crew

Have any of you ever worked a grounds crew at a ball park? Our Triple A team here in Indy is hiring seasonal grounds crew and I'm thinking about applying for the job. I have quite a bit of time this summer as my job is part time during those months and it's probably the closest I'll ever come to being on a professional ball field working.

Any thoughts? Thanks!

Never done it, but do it! What's the worst that happens? They say no?

And if you don't like it ... QUIT! But as was said ... yeah, go for it!

I have a friend who does it for our local AA affiliate, as he is also a local landscaper. He gets in to all the games free with a good seat, but works almost every weekend during the summer. He seems to enjoy it, so if you have a lot of free time on your hands during the summer it should be an exciting job.

  • I was on the Reds ground crew from 1990-93 best job ever but it really is a lot of work at times. The tarp when it rains is super heavy and I've sifted a ton of dirt for the field. But even through long hours you're on a baseball field so as long as you love the game take the job. You'll meet players and be able to talk to them as a person not as a ball player. Amazing how down to earth some of the players are Tony Gwynn would come talk to us between his batting practice just shoot the breeze.

You know it's been a bad day when the 5th inning rolls around and the grounds crew goes out and drags the warning track.
