Fake/counterfeit Glavine, Smoltz

Sending out another reminder to watch out for the often counterfeited 1986 Procards RC's.

Fake Glavine

Fake Smoltz

The font on the front is an easy giveaway of why these are reprints, not to mention them having been graded by GEM.

    * Though these have been covered before, thought it relevant in case anyone decides to go looking for a Glavine in the wake of a HOF announcement.

Good reminder. In addition, compare the backs to a confirmed real 1986 ProCards card. The copyright year on the back is usually a dead giveaway for a reprint as well. Especially the "8" in 1986. Unfortunately no copyright for some reason on the back of a 1986 ProCards Glavine will make it that much easier to reprint. Stock on the reprints I have seen is much more bright white than a real card. Real ones are a much duller white. Always feel free to PM me with a scan and I can compare to my real ones if you's like.

GEM would be the biggest red flag...
Counterfeits will get more and more sophisticated as the money involved gets higher and higher. They're not 100%, but I would still want my card in a PSA holder over anyone's....

Here is a fake 1986 ProCards Palmeiro. As I suspected, these fakes must have been made around the millenium when raw minor league cards had prices out of this world, so might even be a fake Dave Justice around somewhere. So I've seen 1986 Procards fakes of Maddux, Smoltz, Johnson, Martinez, Palmeiro. One thing to note, they are generally from the same seller Stan111 and he has sold multiple copies of the same minor league cards (e.g. 1986 procards Maddux). I know some on this boards have alerted authorities in rare instances, but it would be so nice if the authorities would at least sweat this guy out to find out where he got them and make sure he is not the one making them. Think like a crook...I don't believe Gem grading exists as a legal company anymore, probably for many legal reasons to have let it all go under, so it would be a perfect crime to fake their slabs and issue graded reprints under their name as no one really could lay a claim of damages as owner of Gem if they are out of business. Buyers of the cards of course, will have recourse in theory, but very costly where it's not worth the battle.
