New BBCE buy prices

I know there is a segment of the board that is burnt out on unopened and all the BBCE talk on the boards. Well I'm not one of themimage I was checking their site out today and noticed they have updated buy prices on a lot of products. Several 1980's FB and early 80's Topps BB products moved up a bit. I noticed their 82 Topps BB wax box buy price is now at what their sell price was just 2 group breaks ago. I remember because I bought a box from them for a little less than $175 at that time. I haven't been watching their 70's prices as closely the last few months as I don't have any of that product yet but I thought the 80's changes were interesting.

I noticed the new buy prices a couple days ago. Some made a pretty good jump. Some buy prices are more than the boxes sold for less than a year ago.

I should have bought some 82 topps wax two years ago...or ten for that matter!
  • The question is if it will make a difference in BBCE's inventory. Personally, I don't think it will.

This is all positive for the hobby... especially for everyone who collects/hoards unopened product.
  • Did the last supply of 75 mini wax boxes last a little longer this time around?

I think one of the more dramatic examples is 1981 Topps BB wax. With the still present 10 percent discount, I bought a box last April for $90. Steve is now paying $150image

This blog post made me pretty excited for 2014:

For 2014, Baseball Card Exchange will launch some new things. First of all, one of the complaints on our website was that our inventory was not in "real time" with the quantitiy of items we have in stock. We hope to move foward with this issue this year. Currently, we have done better with new vintage unopened matieral. We can now list the quantity we have in stock when we re-stock items. This way if we only have 1 of an item back in stock, the first person to order it will get that item. Anyone who tries to order that item after the first person will now be notified with a "Sold Out". This is being implemented on vintage unopened now (pre-1986) and we hope to have it done for all unopened material sometime this year. Again, if there are any questions or problems with inventory on any product, please call directly and talk to us. We are here to help you.

Next, we will be opening our full time retail store sometime around Opening Day for the 2014 Major League Baseball season. We don't want this to be the average, everyday card shop. Since our complete inventory will be all under one roof in our location (12,000 square feet total) customers will have access to everything that is available on our website, ebay store, etc. We will of course carry all the new unopened products (since that is what a card shop has been "usually" known for), but we also will carry quality autographed memorabilia, all with legitimate certification from only a few reputable authentication companies. We will have a large selection of vintage cards (pre-1980) with an emphasis on 1950's and 1960's in all sports. We plan on having autograph guests coming to the store to sign for the public. We will also have PSA/DNA making stops at our location to authenticate autographs ON THE SPOT. And of course, we will have the vintage unopened material you have come to expect from us!

For the National Convention this year, we have secured a spot that will be 50x50...thats 2500 square feet!! To compare this with the past few years, we had 1000 square feet in Baltimore and Chicago. That is quite a huge spot we will have. I have no idea what we will do with all that space, but I guess we will come up with some ideas.....sand volleyball pit?!?

Finally, we have had many customers express the idea to us that we should run our own auction. I think the biggest reason people suggest this is for the extremely rare items we get in. Most the time when we get in something that is rare, it goes on the website and sells in seconds. Usually the person who buys the item is someone who just happens to be logged in at that time. Customers are wishing for a better way to sometimes get a chance at that rare special item. Maybe an auction is an option to give everyone a fair chance? I will consider this option as we move into the New Year.

Again, if anyone has questions, suggestions or comments, please e-mail me anytime and I will read your responses.

    Thanks! Steve Hart

Throughout history, poverty is the normal condition of man. Advances which permit this norm to be exceeded — here and there, now and then — are the work of an extremely small minority, frequently despised, often condemned, and almost always opposed by all "right-thinking" people. Whenever this tiny minority is kept from creating, or (as sometimes happens) is driven out of a society, the people then slip back into abject poverty.

This is known as “bad luck.”

Pretty easy math... if you can't keep product on the shelves for more than five minutes, your prices are too low.

though they're pretty amazing shelves, comparatively speaking, of course. the other shelves simply can't compete.

as for those five minutes, it seems that is about how long it takes for another price increase to occur.

We've officially hit the "come strong or stay at home" phase. If there's anything in the woodwork, then this is what it required to bring it out. Can't have it both ways at this stage of the game.

Actually I thought the minis went quicker this time. Plus we just had a pair of sales on ebay at 2800 and 2650.

They had an 84 Topps Baseball case not to long ago, see that it is gone.

I was buying early-mid 1980's football wax boxes from Dave & Adams this fall at somewhat decent prices. They were a little more than ebay at the time and the safety of buying from a well known dealer was worth the small premium.

They just posted a 1985 and 1982 Topps box at $265 each. That is at least $80 more than the last time I bought those boxes. The last 1982 Topps Box I got was $185 about 3 months ago.

Looks like the insanity is all over the place.

BTW - Both the 1982 and 1985 Football Box are now gone from the D&A site. I guess someone was OK with those prices.

I have bought some modern (post-2000) stuff from them and know they are a big online seller. How is their reputation in terms of older material 80's etc.? I purchased a box of 86 Topps FB from them during their Black Friday special and got a great deal on it. Of course it's only a great deal if it's legit product. It is marked from a sealed case so I am assuming it is good. Anybody have thoughts on their reliability for 80's and older material?

I've bought 80s wax from them and everything was perfect. Bought cello boxes and they were unsearched.

The boxes I've purchased from them were solid. The boxes were clean and the packs were legit. I missed on the Black Friday special on the 1986 T FB Boxes because I spent so much at BBCE. I heard there were some issues with GAI packs they sold a few years ago but I blame GAI for that. I've noticed that they haven't added any more GAI packs since.

Oh well it was a good deal while it lasted. Their prices for boxes are now at BBCE levels.
