"My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. Our childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When we were insolent we were placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds - pretty standard really."
Not sure why I saved them, but I have two from 1987. Check out the prices on the Topps '52 set!!!!! EDITED TO ADD: The prices are based on NrMt to MINT condition.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.
<< <i>And only 5 months later...the 1952 Topps set is at $26,562. Only $4500 for a Mantle. >>
WOW! A 22% increase on the set and a 28% increase on The Mick in 5 months.

I have heard it said among veteran collectors that the 52 Mantle didn't really "take off" until it hit the $1,000 dollar mark, then it gained notoriety as an actual investment vehicle in the early part of the go-go 80's and started an exponential growth climb. In fact, I believe it actually declined in value during the inflation/recession period of 79-81.
Kiss me once, shame on you. Kiss me twice.....let's party.
Now that was a red hot card in August-September '88. On many wantlists before then but late in the 88 season I remember one of our local dealers pricing one for something like $45 when it was $20 or $24 in the beckett guide. And speaking of beckett monthly guides, I've got the Jan/Feb 1986, Nov/Dec 1986, Jan/Feb 1988 , October 1988 and May 1990 issues on hand and easy to get to.
from the j/f 1986: 55 Topps: Koufax $70....Killebrew $35...Clemente $135....and that's enough to make me sick without going any further

$15.00
<< <i>I have a price guide from 1980 if anyone wants to go further back in the time machine. >>
I would be curious to hear some prices. Henderson, Murphy, Brett rookies...
<< <i>What's the highest priced card that has the same price in 1988 and 2014? >>
Well, at least for modern, it seems like Wade Boggs 1983 Topps rookie which is listed at $20. I don't think it has gone up much more than that.
A Pete Rose rookie is listed at $525.
