Survey on DISCO demolition night - July 12, 1979 White Sox vs Tigers

Disco Demolition Night was an ill-fated baseball promotion that took place on July 12, 1979, at Comiskey Park in Chicago, Illinois.

Was a double header - Sox and the Tigers. Demolition occurred between game 1 and 2 - it was a total disaster - fans ran on the field after the explosion - net result - Tigers won game 2 by default.

So, my question - how did you feel about DISCO?

No written response necessary - just curious about the music. Mine was somewhere between hate and ambivalence.

I guess you could say I tolerated it. I had an older brother who would go out every weekend to the local Disco, So it has it memories. KC and the Sunshine Band, ABBA, and The Bee Gees weren't too bad.

Many people went to the game strictly for the explosion - they estimate that probably twice as many people attended the game than was anticipated. Plus, tons of kids just found their way into the stadium.

The explosion destroyed the field, and then the fans did the rest!

I was 6 at the time. I count that as too young.

I never listened to the music. But I do remember when Saturday Night Fever came out. It was insane.

Hated disco in the '70s...like it now, oddly enough.
  • Loved it then, love it now. Cant stand rap.
  • I was in junior high then. It was what they played, it was what we knew. Other than Devil Went down to Georgia.

Kiss Dynasty indeed! I was made for loving you Babyeeeeeee, You were made for loving meeee I can't get enough of you baby, Can you get enough of me?

Another ill fated promotion was 10 Cent beer night at Cleveland on June 4th 1974 .

I remember also in 1974 at Memorial Stadium in Baltimore , Bat Day . They gave away 20,000 full size bats . People were throwing them into the parking lot from the upper decks . Then they started throwing them unto the field . I don't remember if we won or lost , but I do remember when the fans started pounding the concrete floors . It was VERY loud .

I also remember , I believe in 1988 , there was a Paper Airplane night . With a terrible team , it only took a few innings for the fans to find some better entertainment , when they started in mass to throw the airplanes into the field . I remember the back stop screen was absolutely filled with paper airplanes . ---- Sonny

So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
