I can't answer the first part of your question, but the second answer would be no.

  • Look at the edges on the back. I hope you didn't buy it.

No I did not. The front looks good but your right the back edges look weird. Scary.

Also look at the black border around the name. And how white the creases are, the tear looks pretty fresh too. The seller also stated it didn't pass the light test. Which if it were original 52 Topps card stock it would do.

Could it be a "re-backed" original? I can see the print dots on his face. This card went threw a printing press. Maybe that's why it failed a light test?

Yeah I know but the seller does not appear to be in the reprint business and people make mistakes. They also state that they purchased a large vintage collection and with (91) stars look to be new to the hobby.

I am not an expert on 1952 Topps by any stretch of the imagination. Maurice is. If he says to stay away then you stay away. If the seller says it is fake and lets it go for $120 there is really nothing else to say.

Maurice also said that this 52 Mantle was fake in this thread but it turned out to be authentic, so he could be wrong.

Correct. I was wrong about that card. Not making excuses but it was a horrible scan and it didn't look right.
  • There's no way this card is authentic. The back edges tell the whole story.

I will take your opinion over mine on a 52 Mantle any day still.

The card is bad. Plain and simple.

I guess this is why people selling stuff like this still sell it and make money. Some people want so badly to own something that they can't afford that they'll convince themselves that they're the lucky one that found the needle in the haystack. Then they'll argue to the end that they're right and got a great deal, even when all the evidence confirms that they didn't.

I see it with purses, jewelry, cards, clothing, perfume, etc...

What about it? The fact that it looks chewed up? That's normal for that card (for one variation, anyway).
