Need advice on buying a vintage football card lot

Let me begin by saying that I'm a huge collector of baseball cards. However, I've recently come across a gentlemen that has some older 1960's era vintage football cards that he wants to get rid of.
It's only 30-40 cards, but I noticed some well-known players such as Butkus, Hornung, Tarkenton, Ditka, Piccolo, etc. The cards are in rough shape (most would probably grade PSA 3/4) but I would be interested because of the star power. My question is this...what is a fair offer when it comes to what % to offer based on the book price? He is basically giving me the cards and wants me to give him a fair price based on my perceived value of the card lot.

Any advice out there?

Thx in advance

For stars in that condition I would say around 10- 15% of book would be fair.
    What I Collect:

PSA Pro Football HOF Rookie Players Set Registry- (Currently 19.80% Complete)

Yeah, 10% for low grade stars seems about right.
