Off center Steve Carlton rookie card

First purchase of the year and I'm really happy with it. I know many on this site would never but a PSA card with a qualifier but I'd much rather have sharp corners and a clear image than perfect centering.

Wow. That is one nice card. The corners are amazing.

Nice pick up. With the centering issue being top to bottom rather than left to right with this card, the eye appeal is not bad in my opinion. It is definitely a sharp looking card. Congratulations.

Nice! I like to go for midgrade cards that look rather sharp with nice corners but are slightly off center. Centering doesn't bother me as much if the card looks nice otherwise. Nice pickup!

Actually looks a lot like my Carlton PSA 5. Similar centering and all.

I'm with you - I like a nice, crisp card over perfect centering. Pretty card!

Edited to add, nice price too!

I agree that you should collect what you like.

Agreed, absolutely. A well centered card that has a blurry photo or a splotchy surface is a pyrrhic victory.

    I like it.

Have many very nice OC cards. Tho I do prefer centered cards.

Good looking card. I could live with that qualifier image

I like a nicely centered card ... but that card looks fine! As was already stated, T/B on those '65 Rookie cards is not as important as L/R centering.
    STAY HEALTHY!

  • First, I liked crisp corners.
    Now, I like centering more.

But that card is stunning! The side to side centering is fantastic and overall, the top to bottom does not overshadow how crisp and clean that card is.

Fantastic pick up, and thanks for sharing.

My final thought is that unfortuantely, my eye goes right to the unibrow on Fritz Ackley. Yikes!!

Any chance that card could be regraded to a straight 8 and if so, would it have a higher value?

Funny, that cropped photo makes Carlton look like a righty.

It's a keeper for my personal collection. I'm sure PSA would gladly take my money on a re-sub but it will still be the same card no matter what their 'opinion' is. Part of the reason I look for high end OC cards is that a lot of people won't consider qualifier cards for their collections.
