New Registry Benefits Announced

Just got an email from BJ Searls. They are changing the free grading policy for the set registry benefits program. The good change is that you no longer have to submit cards from the same set that achieves 90%. You can submit any card with your free credit. The downside is the maximum free grades is 3, regardless of set size and only sets that are 25 cards or bigger qualify for free grading credits.

<< <i>I have never used the free grading since the ridiculous cost to have the cards shipped back wipes out any cost savings. >>
Depends. If you accrue 50 to 100 grading credits, shipping is a small portion of what you save on grading fees. I should end up with about 200 or so when I'm done cashing them in.
(not buzzed tonight )
<< <i>I think though they say that for each separate voucher you get requires a separate submisison form - Won't this cause separate return shipping fees ?

No. That's only the case if you do different types of submissions (e.g., some review, some raw grades, some crossovers). Mine are all on one group of forms.
You can cut those costs way down by setting up a FED EX account and having PSA ship them back to you via FED EX ground. That way, it only costs around $8 total to ship 3 cards back to you.
I'm glad I got my free grades for my main registry set and associated team sets out of the way last year. I had around 25 total for the year, which under the new policy of no more than 3 free grades per year, would have taken me 9 years if I started today.
Unless I'm totally misreading the new policy, that will take you over 60 years to cash in under a max of 3 per year.

Whoa, now that you mention it, that may be the case. That's crazy. They're basically shutting it down. I'll ask for clarification when I submit my request. I already have about 150 that I have already cashed in but didn't submit yet. If the additional credits are only three max per year, then I'll get the three added to my current batch and then I'll be done with it. I agree that few will take advantage of the program if you can only submit three at a time. If that's the case, they might as well just eliminate it entirely as that kind of program produces more negative loyalty than it produces.
<< <i>Yeah, they're definitely reeling in that benefit. Under the now "old" policy, it was definitely a great benefit in helping me complete/improve my registry sets in an affordable way, which seemed to be the intent of offering the benefit in the first place. I hardly see that point now with the new policy, but it's better than nothing at all, I guess. >>
Not really. It ranks up there with other marketing FUBARs like 'bait and switch' and doubling the price before marking it on sale for '25% off'.
