tried buying a draped bust dollar today...

My fav coin shop isnt open on monday, so I thought I would visit another. Didn't know if I would actually buy anything from this place. I asked for a 1799 dollar with budget of 1k. Woman brought out a cleaned coin graded at vg. It clearly was not. Stangely she would not give me a price for it. I asked to see others she had. At this point she says " go home and save your pennies and come back when you have saved more money". I could have spent more, but never got the opportunity to discuss it.

I would have had a hard time holding my tongue. People/businesses like that really chap my hide.

    Hmmm....

How did they know that you didn't have 10K in your front pocket if they were to just let you window shop the higher grade?

I defiantly wouldn't be going back to this one...

    sorry :/

It's all about what the people want...

to be fair the OP basically walked in and asked for a specialist coin at about 1/2 the going rate for decent examples and there could also be more to the story too. I will keep my noose in my satchel for now.

I'd like to give you more to the story, but thats basically it. I'm not retired, a millionaire or have deep pockets. For me, spending 1 to 3k is a huge purchase. The guy I usually go to and will see soon, knows this. I will probably make payments.i just question why some dealers do not think my presence is worth they're time and effort.

1). Would be interesting to know the place, especially if they are "up to 18 negative reviews" now.
2). Sales people like to "qualify" customers. Something that is learned. It sucks. It isn't right and it isn't that smart. They do it early because they don't want " to waste time" or be played with. They lose a lot of good customers and sales by doing so.
3). Your sigline is WAY TOO BIG!!!!! You really should reduce it to meet the conventions asked for (i.e...1 line).

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I do agree with their advice though. Save a little bit more and buy a better quality higher grade example.

Thats fair. A better piece is what I want. The woman had said it in an insulting tone. The empty store shows I'm not the only one she has insulted.

perhaps we should leave the moderating to the moderators.... or perhaps be aware of our own overstepping while pointing out the overstepping of anyone else.

I didn't moderate...not sure why you have such a problem with me or me being nice and mentioning the size of his sigline. Others have been asked, by Don, and told, by Don, to reduce. I figured I would be nice and mention it since the OP doesn't get over to the USCF that much, I don't believe, as I believe he frequents the MD forum more.

Don has asked, nicely, before that people be considerate and smart about their siglines. The OP is a nice guy and no need for him to get a PM about it from Don when someone can easily mention it here.
Obviously, the OP has decided against reducing the size, and that is up to him. Either something, or nothing, will come out of it. No biggie to me. I just ignore posts after a bit where the sigline is so many times greater than the message itself.
Kind of like I usually ignore your posts since they seldom have anything to do with the forum, or anything beneficial about coins image

How about: "Stock some better material and I might think about it."

    That's beyond rude.
Let's try not to get upset.

counter person was rude, no doubt, best advice i can think of is to return at a later date, and address the issue with the owner, who may not be aware of the staff's behavior
