eBay rewards: for hobby heavyweights only

Dear Geordie,

We’re writing to let you know about upcoming changes to the eBay Bucks Rewards Program. In order to continue offering meaningful benefits, we regularly look at the program’s performance to learn where changes are necessary. As a result of our latest program review, the eBay Bucks Certificates to be issued for the quarter ending December 31, 2013, will be the last sent for Rewards that total less than $5.00.

Effective January 1, 2014, program members must earn a minimum of $5.00 in eBay Bucks during a quarterly Earn Period in order to receive a Certificate at the end of the period. Quarterly balances below the $5.00 threshold will be forfeited.

Also effective January 1, 2014, purchases from eBay Motors Parts & Accessories will not be eligible for Rewards.

To learn more about these changes, please visit our Frequently Asked Questions page, and review the updated eBay Bucks Terms & Conditions.

As always, please know that we appreciate your eBay Bucks membership, and look forward to rewarding your participation with significant benefits.

Sincerely,

eBay Bucks Team

That means I will no longer have $1-3 to spend every 3 months.

Damn you, eBay. Damn you to hell!

I wish I got a message like that, because it would mean that i had been successful in reducing my buying! I like the bucks program, but i need to stop buying in general! Too much good stuff though...
I collect Steve Garvey, Dodgers and signed cards. Collector since 1978.

At least I get to keep my $4.37 this time around
  • They could at least hold the points for you until you hit five bucks, and then give you a certificate after that.

Exactly. Lame change to save a few bucks.

  • They are saving more than a few bucks by changing the program. I don't have an issue with it, and I earned over $5 only once. Programs like EBay bucks are meant to reward people who spend a good amount of money on EBay. Just like how they give sellers discounts when they meet a certain volume. Any good business rewards their best customers in some way.

I believe you have to spend $250 over 3 months to hit $5. That is far from being considered a heavyweight.

It is not customer friendly, but to say the threshold to be a heavyweight is to spend $83.33 a month is quite a bit of an overstatement imo.

    I received the same email.
I'm ok with it, either I'll spend enough over the buying period or I won't.
This last buying period I spent enough.

Does anyone think that eBay had some type of survey they sent out beforehand?

Well, last I heard Doug was outbidding the owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers, so speak for yourself..

I liked that Bing search offer they had a few years ago. If I recall correctly, you could get back 35% with BINs.

Those were good times indeed! You could piggyback the Ebay Crumbs cash back on that BIN too.

Hopefully, ebay won't fix (or find) the ebucks "bug". Users get ebucks for ebucks purchases. If you use $100 ebucks, your account gets credited with $2 ebucks for the next redemption period. I don't think this is intentional.
