COTY awards...anyone else not feelin' any love?

The winner is a "selfie" of the "artist", with a blue hand, right? Most of the others look like prizes from an arcade machine? What am I missing?

These are depicted in the current Numismatic News

Just my opinion, but colorizing coins makes them look like that junk being sold on TV...

    Sort of.
    It is a disputed territory:
    Transnistria

Note that private mints have never been included in this, presumably because they only make tokens and medals, not legal-tender coins.
But I wonder where the Transnistria coins were minted ?

I think they (Numismatic News) should have award categories for tokens and medals.

It is to Abkhazia, Nagorno-Karabakh Republic and South Ossetia, the only countries that recognize it.

This might depend on what circulation coins one is used to. Some countries like Canada and Australia have colorized circulation coins but the US doesn't. It's somewhat similar to how some countries have multi-color plastic bills but the US doesn't.

Transdnestr is a real place, and rather scary IMHO - I have been there rather surreptitiously a few years ago. Having lived in the USSR and Ukraine I can tell you Transdnestr is a throwback to 1950s era USSR. There are hammer and sickles on everything including their money. They have been in a tug of war with Moldova over territorial disputes etc, and they have Russian army protecting them. The problem with the ex-USSR states is that roads crossed old "republic" boundaries without thought that one day they would be a national boundary and sometimes to get to where you want to go you end up having to "sneak" across another country to get there. And I was only in and out of Transdnestr and Moldova to get to places in Ukraine I was visiting but there was no realistic way of getting from point A to point B without sneaking across those commie type places.

Daniel Carr asked the above question......Not sure about this one in particular but many of the NCLT issued (Gibraltar, Isle of Man, Malawi, Palau etc.) are manufactured in Germany
