Day after Christmas Rip: 1977 Topps baseball cello pack & (2) 1978 Topps baseball wax pack! **G

In the spirit of tonight's rippage, and what I hope will become a CU Christmas Eve tradition, I'm going to rip a 1978 Topps baseball rack pack. This rip probably should have served as the undercard to Nikklos and Jeff's rips, but I wanted to keep the ball rolling (so to speak) and I need more pack fresh 78 singles for my graded set, LOL!

Next up: the middle (Ryan) section!!

Collecting 1970s Topps baseball wax, rack and cello packs, as well as PCGS graded Half Cents, Large Cents, Two Cent pieces and Three Cent Silver pieces.

Thanks, fellas! I enjoy going through these cards one by one~it heightens the experience (mainly an exercise in frustration, lol).

Well, first cell (far section from header, the Molitor section) was not too encouraging. cards were very clean but centering off just enough to relegate 11 of the 13 cards to the raw set pile. Got a '78 rookies card, but not the right one, lol...These two were the best of the bunch:

Middle cell wasn't much better, centering-wise...pulled a Stargell but was OC. These two were the best of the bunch. The next section (the header cell) is the money cell for 78--Murray, Brett, Schmidt, Rose, etc..Hoping for some magic there or I may have to sacrifice another rack, lol..

Pulled two HOFers in header section but they weren't the right ones (T. Perez and P. Niekro), LOL..Just one card worth scanning, but I'm not going down like this so here comes another 78 rack!

OK, the second rack is better than the first, at least, lol...saw the same sequence develop in middle cell so I knew Stargell was likely to come up and though this one is nicer than the first, it's still not quite as nicely centered as I wanted it to be. Some nicely centered commons though...one more section to open and then I may move on to a single pack from an undetermined year...I have a 77 cello with a popped seal on back so that's looking like the next stop! LOL!

Last cell on 2nd 78 rack was pretty nice--I got another Tony Perez, but this one was very nicely centered and has a shot. A few other nicely centered commons, too. On to the 77 cello!!

77 cello was better than expected as often times the cards in a 70s cello are crimped due to tight cello wrap. The cards towards the middle of this pack were actually very nice--got a beautifully centered checklist, a decently centered Morgan (wish it were a bit better centered L/R) and a very nicely centered Luzinski N.L. All Star card. I love the All Star design on the 77s. Gum was intact and in one piece--anyone know of anyone interested in intact slabs of gum for sale??

    Thanks, Jeff!

75-78 are my favorite issues--the 75s and 76s are tougher to rip, but I may have to crack open a 75 soon. image

Theese two were also from the second 78 rack...lots of single digit low pop PSA 10s in the second rack~these two are pop 2 in PSA 10. These are likely not PSA 10s, but nice cards nonetheless.

Thanks again, guys! Always a pleasure pulling these cards and sharing the rips! image

Two cards worth scanning from the pack--one of them was Munson, which was a treat to pull, and a very nice Evans. Also pulled a sharp Gary Carter but was OC L/R. Love these All Star cards.

Ripped two 78 wax packs (these are like chips, you can't rip just one image ), including the last pack from the torn 78 tray. The pack from the tray yielded some very nice cards, including a few very sharp low pop cards and one of the nicest Speiers I have ever pulled from a pack--this card is one of the toughest in the set with just 13 9s and a 1 10. There has never been a PSA 10 Dick Williams card. Kerrigan is also a super tough card with just 1 PSA 10, and this one has a shot at least. The pack was really nice--if I had more trays from this case, I'd rip a couple more, as the cards were that sharp. Out of 14 cards, I found 7 worth card savering. The Fisk was (sadly) OC.

    image

The other pack was from a partial box I have--seal was popped on back, but cards were crisp and clean. The Brooksie would be gem if it were positioned a smidge to the left, but the team cards are razor sharp.
