Is there any way to remove black spots from BU zinc coins from WWII?

I have two that I bought that are high-end (for the issue) BU. There are some black spots on the coins. It doesn't appear to be oxidation but merely just dirt.

I don't want to try acetone as I have bad experiences with zinc. I was thinking of carefully trying to get it off with a toothpick but I don't know if that will hurt it or not.

Any ideas?

How bad are they? Pics please. I'd lean towards leaving the spots alone in most instances.

Without seeing pics of them, I suspect they are corrosion spots. Zinc is a terrible metal to make coins from as it corrodes and oxidizes so easily. If it's corrosion, not much you can do about it - anything capable of removing it will damage the rest of the surface as well.

Acetone should be harmless to zinc and would remove actual, literal dirt and any kind of organic goo.
