Sold something that I didn't plan on, so I am celebrating with an 85 Donruss wax box rip

Will probably just rip one box. I have an entire case (not sealed) and this is why I never buy cases. Well, here goes nothing. Scans to come.
I cannot hit curveball. Straightball I hit it very much. Curveball, bats are afraid.

Pretty satisfied with the rip. I have to say IMHO 84-87 Donruss blow away Topps. Love the design of these cards. It takes me back.

boxes in good shape. The middle one pays the price !

If it were 1989 I would've loved the rip even more. 3 Tartabulls !

Some doc's and rips sideways. Sorry don't know why it uploaded like that.

Now onto the heavy hitters. Roger 1st. At first glance I was really excited.

    But upon further review...

    Now the prize catch.

    Any shot at a 10 ?

    Finally the carnage.

I was showing my wife the cards, and she says "your like a kid at Christmas" . It was fun opening these. I got excited seeing those Tartabulls and remembering how pumped I would be as a kid when I pulled one. Oh, and it was nice to actually hit a very nice Puckett. Thanks for reading along with my rambling...

I 100% agree with Donruss from 1984-1986. Best looking 3 year run of cards ever. The 1986 D is my all time favorite looking set followed closely by 1985. They are both so underrated. It's funny what you say on the Tartabull. We all had a ridiculous time pulling that card. No one could find one. I think it might be short printed and not disclosed. I hear that about that card too often

Nice Puckett. Has a shot at a 10 IMO. Maybe its just my age, but I've never even heard of Tartabull.

That Puckett looks like a 10 to me.

Tartabull... man, that guy looked like he was gong to be a megastar for awhile. Had some huge seasons.

Great rip. I agree that the 1985 Donruss is one good looking set. The Eric "The Red" Davis is my favorite in the set. He had so much talent.

I think the small mark on the left edge will keep the Puckett at a 9, but I hope it lands a 10 for you since it certainly looks worthy.

    Jeff, nice carnage indeed!!! image

I agree with you on the 1984 to 1987 Donruss. Definitely my favorites too. I had a blast opening that 1985 Leaf box I won from Big80's a while back and I share your enthusiasm. Congrats on the Puckett, but I'm partial to Dr. K myself. image

Thanks guys. @Jordangretzkyfan - There actually isn't a mark on the bottom left, although it looks like it in the picture. That is a reflection or glare. That edge is perfect. There is the slightest rough cut on the top edge that you really can't see in the picture. That is the only flaw I can see in the card. But if PSA gives allowances for a slight rough edge, which based off other 10's I've seen, it seems they do, than I think the Puckett has a legit shot, although the difference between a 9 and 10 to me is kind of a crap shoot. I agree with the comments about Eric Davis. I was a big fan of his too, and I loved this 95 Donruss card of his. @Mike, I know your a New York guy :-) but I totally agree on Dr. K. He was amazing, just didn't have the longevity to get in the Hall.

  • Not only does that Puckett have a shot at a 10..... from that picture it looks to me like it will probably get a 10.

Hoping that Puckett gets slabbed in a "PSA 10" ... turns a $15.00 card (PSA 9) into a $115.00 card!!!!!

A high-end 9 is still well worth the cost to get slabbed. I bid $26 shipped trying to win a 9 last night and didn't win.

For the young guys in the crowd, Tartabull was a stud early on in his career. Not quite like Puig or Harper or Trout, but he was a beast for a few years like @Tabe mentioned, and looked like he was going to be a monster, but once he got traded to NY, he seemed to slip a little each year. He was on the box after all, even though he was mostly covered up by Ryno ! Just further proof that legends aren't built over night, heck, their not even built over 5 years.

The Puckett looks very strong. Good luck. I sent one in I thought was a 10 and it came back miss cut.
