Nice Deal at Local Card Shop

I went to a local card shop and picked these up:

1986 Topps 3-Box Rack Case (sealed) - $50
1987 Topps 3-Box Rack Case (sealed) - $50
1988 Topps 3-Box Rack Case (sealed) - $35
1986 Topps Rack Box - $10
1988 Topps Rack Box - $10
1989 Topps Rack Box - $10
2012 Topps Series 1 (retail) $20
2012 Topps Series 2 (retail) $20
2013 Topps Series 2 (hobby) $40
2013 Topps Update Series (hobby) $40

The 86 case I was really excited for, especially at that price. The dealer wanted to get rid of his old stuff. He did not have any more cases, but boxes of 89 Donruss were appealing that I may go back for at another time.

Awesome scores! Are you planning on ripping anything or do you think you're going to keep them sealed?

After the New Year I will probably update. I have a few things to settle with the BBCE.

Then I have to consider a new bookshelf....

Right now they all go into my 80's collection. At a later date I will open the 2012 and 13 stuff. I out of town for Christmas, so I will wait till I am back home after the New Year. Then followed by organizing my loose cards to sell off. Then I will do some heavy considering on what to rip this year.

  • Good prices, but I've never understood the draw or appeal of the 86 set. Horrible player selection, horrible design, mass production. What is the appeal?

    Horrible selection???? Over 30 HOFers.

The challenge: Black borders make it difficult to land in high grade.

Agree that the design is sub-par. The set will have its day before long.

    Thanks,

Don't all sets have a bunch of HOFers? What's the best rookie card? Vince Coleman? Cecil Fielder?
