Buyer issue

I do not sell a lot, just stuff I have upgraded.
I sold this guy an item last Friday on ebay.
I mailed the item on Monday.
By Thursday he opened a dispute that he did not receive his item without contacting me prior to this.
At this point I send him the tracking number and sure enough the USPS is being a little slow but it is still on the way.
Now my paypal balance is negative because of the dispute.
The irony is that his ebay id is "dontgetnervous".

You may have been able to avoid the case entirely by simply adding the tracking number as soon as you shipped the item. Not seeing it almost a week after buying the item might have made him a bit nervous. This is no excuse for his haste though (it is Christmas time for crying out loud).
Now that you've provided the tracking number to the case it should be an easy close on his part once he gets it. If not Ebay should see it your way anyhow.

This was my first thought. Heck, just print the label through eBay and it uploads the tracking number for you.

Probably so but he could have contacted me prior to opening a case. It was less than a week since the auction ended. I ship very quick and never had an issue before.

But when you're looking at who could have done what, consider who is at risk at that point. You have his money, he has no idea if his item is even on the way. Why should a buyer ever have to ask for shipping information? Take this as a lesson to either ship through eBay or upload the tracking number as soon as you leave the post office.
The latest change that bothers me a bit is the inability to view completed auctions by bidder. Unless there is a way I have not discovered, you need to use an external method that someone linked before. I have that bookmarked now. I like to see what certain buyers have purchased and track pricing on items and they have made it difficult to do. In the name of buyer security, I understand, but still...
