Any Recommendations on an E-bay Sniper Service?

I have had very little success winning auctions that I don't snipe on, but am frequently the second highest bidder. I do alright when I snipe and my price points are pretty much the same. So timing appears to be a big factor for the things I bid on. Can anyone tell me which one you use and why?

Gixen - For no other reason than it is free and reliable and I plug in my highest bid I am comfortable with and if I don't win I am ok with that.

    Edited to correct bad typing.

gavelsnipe and gixen both work well and are free. auctionsniper works well too, but they charge a fee so there's no reason to use them when you've got the other 2 options.

I use gavelsnipe for everything, whether it is a high-dollar item or a one-dollar item.

+1 for Gixen. Free and no limit to the number of bids you can place. I have been bidding on, I would guess, an average of 5 items a day for years and Gixen has NEVER failed to fire off for me.

Optionally, you can subscribe (I think it is $10 a year) and you get the mirror service so if one link or server is down/slow, Gixen fires off your snipe from another link/server as an extra measure of protection.

I use GavelSnipe. Free and has successfully placed 54 snipes since I moved to the service from AuctionSniper (paid). Only downside in switching from the paid service is no iPhone app for the freebie. I recommend editing the insert time down from the default to probably around 5 seconds or whatever you're comfortable with. I like it because it's free, simple (just paste the eBay url and key a max bid, submit and forget!), and no intrusive ads.

Funny that you bring that up. One of the things I am trying to get away from is watching e-bay on my phone. So this might actually be a feature. lol

Thanks Guys - I love how fast this board works. I'll check both out tonight.

I use Powersnipe and love it. It costs about $40 annually but it's been great. I haven't ever used another one so i don't know how it compares, but I have a hard time understanding how one could be better than another regarding effectiveness. Your max bid gets placed seconds before the auction ends and I would assume that is the same as all Snipe services. If so, it seems like you would only lose the auction if your bid was lower than another bid.

I used to use auction sniper, but got tired of the fees and tried Gixen. Early on, it burned me real good a couple of times on some items I really wanted when there was a bidding issue. I gave up sniper for a while after that, but it got tough when items would end while I was at work, so I returned to Gixen. I later subscribed to Gixen Mirror for a year ($6 at the time and I think it still is) and had no issues. Have since gone back to free snipes for the last couple of months and so far so good. For the added security, the $6/year is a pretty small price to pay, especially considering you might spend $5 a week at auction sniper if you buy enough. i may subscribe again, figuring they have helped me a lot and I'd hate to see the site go away.

I haven't used a service yet. I am planning on doing so as I have missed a number of auctions due to work, family or forgetfulness. If I am not stealing trade secrets, do most people set snipes for 1, 2, 3 seconds or some other time increment?

The default setting on the free Gixen is 6 seconds. It can be changed to 3 seconds under "settings". I've kept mine at 6.

Personally, I like MyIBidder. You can snipe through their website or via iPhone/Android apps for free. It synchs with your eBay Watched and/or Bidding list, so it's easy to set the snipe (no URL/item # copy/paste). I've never had it fail to launch a bid and it's configurable to launch at either 3, 5, 7, 10, or 12 seconds before auction end (I use 5 sec).

    Edit to correct grammar.

I've used eSnipe for years, no issues. There is a fee, albeit modest. I forget all the details off the top of my head, but you buy "points", 500 for $5, and there is a sort of FVF to determine how many points they charge per win (none are charged for non-winning bids). I think typically I've paid out like 25 points per win or something like that.

I used Auction Sniper a long time ago but I got burned on it when it failed a couple of times. I switched to eSnipe and haven't looked back.

I use esnipe too. The fees are minimal, and I have never had any issues.

I just signed up for gavelsnipe. Does anyone know the default time for sniping with this program? Is there a place to change the default? Ideally, I would have it set for anywhere from 1-6 seconds. If the default is in that range then I wouldn't have to do anything. Thanks,

    Steve

  • I've been using justsnipe.com for many years. $5 a month and I don't recall ever having a missed snipe.

I wouldn't be comfortable using gavelsnipe. It is owned by Heritage Auctions. I don't want a company that auctions sports collectibles learning my bidding patterns as well as other information from my ebay snipes.

I use justsnipe as well. Five free snipes a week if you want the free service. That has been plenty for me.

I just signed up for gavelsnipe. Default setting was 20 seconds, and I changed to 5 seconds. It was very easy to register, and I've already place my first bid.

I've used JustSnipe for years and never had to pay them a dime. It only failed to register a bid once in well over a hundred snipes.
