O/A or am I seeing things?

Ended-up winning this one in the last Höhn auction. Looks like it might be the 1803-FT/M overassayer. I'll post better shots once I receive it and give it a nice acetone soak.

When one of the assayers changed, the initial of that assayer was filled and a new punched over. Since the metal used to fill was softer, some elements of the previous letter would be visible. I think it's the T over M overassayer.

Looks like you might be right.

I assume the O/A is worth a premium and you caught it before bidding.

There is probably a small premium once slabbed, since both services have this variety as part of their registry sets and neither have a single certified example. On top of filling a registry slot, I just really enjoy this kind of a hunt.

It does look like something is going on with the "T" nut it's difficult to see in the image if it's T over M.

It does look like the bottom part of an M. Very interesting, looking forward to the update.

I see a faint outline of the left and right sides of the "M," so I agree it looks T/M.

If this becomes the first certified example, there will definitely be a premium. Congrats! Great eyes and more importantly, the knowledge to know for what you're looking.

Sure looks like the over-assayer to me. Extra metal in all the right places (sounds like an 80's song).

Did you get the coin in hand yet?

Yup, appears to be the FT/M over-assayer variety and in the AU50 range. Lots of crud on it, so into the acetone it goes.
