Looks like he doesn't think he can still compete at a high level after his injuries. Too bad, as I've always enjoyed watching him pitch.

<< <i>A great player who is Hall of Fame worthy in my opinion. Not sure if he'll make it only because of not having pitched enough. >>
I think he belongs in. I'd rather put a guy like him in who was dominant for almost a decade rather than a compiler who only gets big career stats because they played 25 years.

Completely agree. For a decade you could ask any hitter to name one active pitcher they didn't want to face and most would say Halladay.
<< <i>Halladay had a wonderful 6-7 year stretch, but probably not enough to come close to the HOF. Loved watching him pitch. >>
A full seven seasons in the top five in Cy Young voting (in 2002 only four pitchers received votes), eight years in the top four in WAR among pitchers (leading the league four times) and eight years in the top 10 in WAR among all players (leading the league once).
Pretty clear to most of us, that's eight great years. How many do you think are required to be enough to even come close to the Hall-of-Fame?

Valid points for sure...two guys that come to mind for me that didn't come close to the HOF, though. I am not insinuating that Bret Saberhagen and Ron Guidry were better pitchers than Roy Halladay, but they earned 1.3% and 8.8% of the HOF vote at their peak vote, respectively. After listening to actual HOF voters speak on Halladay during the day, it sure seems like he is going to make it, though...good for him.
Always buying Bobby Cox inserts. PM me.
