Need options on best way to build singles collection

Hoping to solicit some help on the best way to build my collection of singles. By that I mean the best way to get them at the best prices. Most of my collection is late 70s to early 90s, all sports, and the stars that I'm interested in. I like graded rather than non- graded as my grading eye is suspect, so I'd rather pay a small premium for a card of a known grade. And I'm pretty small time; a $200 card would be a major purchase.

My question is, where do I find the best selection? And where are the best prices? Is the lowest price on eBay for something roughly around the going rate? Can I take that price and use it as a base somewhere else? I would appreciate any and all feedback.

That's a big help. You hit it on the head with what I am looking to build. Those players mention and along those lines. The beat rookie for each of those qnd perhaps some others for other players I like. I'd rather hold put for a 9 than get an 8 cheap. And I guess I'm a little impulsive. If I see something that looks good, it's hard to say no. I live in the Milwaukee area, so I'm a little partial to Brewers, Bucks, and Packers. What about BIN on eBay? Would I expect to pay like a 10% premium on auction prices? In everyone else's experience, are the other members of this forum responsive with reasonable offers when you post that you are looking for something to buy?

I had no idea there was a sold listings feature. That's a great help. Thanks.
