    $16,000,000 a year is now a toss around number.

    Al Kaline was offered $100,000 a year in the early 70's and turned it down. Said it was too much. Tigers GM Jim Campbell insisted that he take it.

    That was also well before cable TV contracts and the ridiculous amounts of cash that teams in larger markets now generate.
