The border of the Mantle matches his fingernail grime

yeah that border is dark, that guy though just got out of work. Some people work with their hands in this world , in other pictures he has paint and dirt all over them.

The future belongs to those who are still willing to get their hands dirty - so they say

I am by no means an expert on the Mantle, but that one looks strange to me. Almost like the entire card is toned exactly the same. Why would the Mantle look so much different than the rest of the cards? Hopefully I am wrong, but buyer beware I guess.

What's the grade on the Yogi and why wouldn't he have gotten the Mantle certified? If the card is legit, it's possible the card was laminated. People used to do that with special cards back in the day thinking they were protecting them.

Good luck! I recommend meeting him at the library so you have a safe environment to inspect the cards. If the deal sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

That Mantle is one of the worst looking fakes I have ever seen.

yeah I agree with everyone, card looks very strange. as for one graded and others not some people by piece by piece and then other people just do really strange things.

I would never bring money to the first inspection . I usually do big purchases at my bank where my banker actually pays not me. then straight into my vault. I dont even like to leave with the cards till later on just incase someone plans on robbing me afterwards lol

I had major questions about the cards, thats why I thought Id ask. I need scans of the cards then need to inspect them in life.
  • I'd say make a condition of the buy having him certify the Mantle. If he balks then there's no need to continue the discussion.

The Mantle is an obvious fake. The seller either knows it, or he might be unaware it's a fake. Either way, don't let it impact you on buying the rest of the cards. Go look at the cards and negotiate a price for the entire group. When you reach the seller's best price on the entire group, ask for his best price without the Mantle. If he doesn't know it's fake you'll likely now be able to pick up the rest of the cards pretty cheap. Tell him you'll think about the Mantle at a later time when funds become available. If he knows it's fake then he won't want to break up the group. Then just offer whatever the real cards are worth to you and tell him he can keep the Mantle.

looks like some kind of paper cut-out Mick. they might still grade it.
  • Could being in a house where there is smoking cause that kind of damage to the card?

KBKards hit that right on the head. Negotiate the deal for the whole batch and then ask in his opinion how much do you (the seller) value the Mantle in this deal. Tell him that you want the deal minus the Mantle card and see his response. If he truly believes the card is fine he will be glad to sell the entire lot. If he says that the deal has to include the Mantle you will know there is a problem. Good advice KB.

I don't think leaving it in an airport smoking lounge from 1952-2000 would cause that coloration. Looks like a tea-and-bake.

I didn't know. I've never seen a card come from a smoking house, so I was just guessing.

Another sign that this card is fake is that he does not feature the card in the front of the other cards. He stages the real cards in front and places the worst card (fake card) in the back of the photo. This guy knows that the card is fake.

  • I think someone may have already stated this, but if there's some push back, get him to send it in to PSA. If it comes back authentic, then offer to foot part or all of the bill from having it graded. I say if he resists this, it's totally fake.
