Did it say on his auctions that he'd combine shipping cost if you won more than one of his auctions? Most do, some don't because they make money on shipping...

  • What a crock! I'd trade 8 negative posts with him just out of principle.

would i get booted if he did non-paying bidder things for all 8 auctions?
  • Dunno. That's why I always read the descriptions carefully. If something is not there, I never assume.
  • jbugsjbugs Posts: 1,708
also, any chance i can contact ebay and have something done? he emailed me and said he does that to make more money, and he knows ppl will bid on several, and then get pissed because he charges so much. also would this at all be mail fraud?? charging $24 shipping, when it only costs him $2-$3?? how about the bad business bureau??
  • ask him if hes sending them all in different mailers if not I dont know what you can do but you know hes really screwing you there

  • I would be mad as hell....but I would also take it as a lesson learned. Lke Auto said, if it's not there, you can't assume. It happened to me in a different way. I didn't realize there was no shipping price indicated on the auction I won, then the seller emailed me and said shipping was $6. for an auction I won @ 3.
  • I say screw those guys that you one those lots from.

Why dont you email them and say -
Why $24 shipping on just 3-6 cards?
I mean, only like 3-6 cards will cost you $1-$5 shipping

each auction was 3-6 cards. but total lot together was around 20. shipping was $3 per lot. he says he doesnt combine shipping because he wants to make more money.
  • jbugsjbugs Posts: 1,708
this is y a lotta people are getting out of collecting, as*holes like this shouldnt be allowed on ebay. i dunno if ill be dealing on ebay much more after this.
  • honestly it probably will cost about 7 to ship 20 cards including the mailer id tell him id pay 10 at most i mean you have to be somewhat reasonable cause really even though its assanine its his right to do
hopefully the guy is civil and will take 10 if that doesnt work threaten not to pay he will go for it hes already making a profit but if he doesnt your screwed sorry this had to happen to you man

You can state, if the shipping container doesn't have a stamp on it (stating that $24 was spent on shipping) you will ask for the difference in shipping costs. I charge $15US for overnight courier. What the hell is this guy sending you? $24 is real expensive, cost me $45US to ship a Bike from canada to US. Also, you can play this game, pay the costs, ask for the positive feedback, then blast him with 8 negatives for over charging on shipping. At least that would be alittle fun.....that is if you really want to screw the guy up.

$7 to ship 20 cards?? lol, it cost me $3 someting to ship 40 cards insured for $150, in bubble package. right now im gonna wait and see if he cancels my other bids on the other stuff i had already bid on but not yet won. once he does that, then ill start trying stuff, but i dont want to get him pissed and not cancel my bids, and have that end up screwing me and costing me another $30 for shipping.

so there isnt anything i can do about it, other than try to negotiate with him?? what if he sends in 1 package, then what can i do donnie??

vince-he says he wont send any payment back for shipping, he says he needs to "make a tiny bit on shipping". i dont see how $20 is tiny!
  • sorry man but your screwed at least theres nothing you can do through ebay i mean he never stated hed combine shipping costs really he could charge whatever he wants

i bought a dutch auction once for 1.99 thinking it was a deal ends up the seller charges 11 dollars for shipping i just sucked it up and payed for it nothing i could do that may be what you have to do too
oh and i wouldnt leave negative feedback thats not cool i mean if you get the cards at worst i leave a negative only time i leave negative is if i pay and dont received the item

wouldnt that be some kind of mail fraud?? over chargind $20 for shipping? god im really pissed!!

  • If he ends up stiffing you there is a pretty good chance at getting some justice with 8 negative feedbacks. You have 90 days to leave feedback. If you time it right and leave 8 negative feedbacks at 89 days 23 hours ~59 minutes he won't have time see his feedback number dropping ( from the negatives ) and respond. I've done this a few times with lousy sellers that I know I won't be dealing with again. It's all a matter of timing. It's not nice but neither is being a cheapskate/lousy/unscrupulous seller. Hope all works out for you!!

ALL YOU EBAY SELLERS SHOULD BE HAPPY TO HAVE BUYERS. DON'T PENALIZE THE BUYERS. IF NOT FOR THE BUYERS YOU WOULDN'T BE MAKING THE SALE.

    lol, thx.
  • Do what someone said above--- INSIST that he send in 8 different envelopes. Tell him that he gets negative feedback for every auction in which he combines the shipping on. It doesn't help you much, but like i always say-- if he fuc#s you, fuc# him back, it will make you feel a bit better. I would personally give him a few neutrals for grossly overcharging on shipping. Add up the postage on each package he sends, and then compare that to the amount he charged you, and let all eBay bidders on his auctions know how much he overcharges

That's why I love Paypal. It leaves a paper trail for those cases (to prove money was sent to him).
  • That's about as bad as when I won like 12 auctions that were for some baseball team lots. Each ended at $1, but the MoFo charged me $45 for shipping and the cards were garbage and it cost $5 to ship.
  • jbugs- it may be too much to charge for shipping but it is your responsibility to PAY. If the did not say he would combine shipping in the description, he dies not have to. One of the problems with eBay is bidders who do not read the description! I am not defending the guy buy your bid is your cantract so be a man and pay up!

u cant get a new id, u have to sign up under different name and different credit card #. i dont know about many of u guys, but i dont have 2 names, lol. this idiot tells me i can cancel my bids, but ebay wouldnt let me(over 1 hr had passed) and now he says i already knew he was gonna screw me over before i bid, and he wont cancel them, i guess im out another $15 shipping GRRRR. i have a rating of 26 on there.
  • Hey, complain to ebay and while you're at it, email the people that have won multiple auctions from him and ask them to do the same. One of ebay regulations is that you must have reasonable shipping. The reason is because they don't get a cut of shipping. Report him. He CAN get booted off for it. If ebay thinks you're stealing from them, they have EVERY right to boot you. Include the email that he said he does it to make money. Even if he doesn't, make him send in separate padded envelopes. And then give him a negative feedback for not combining on shipping. Buyers need to see that.

  • First of all, you can't get booted with 8 negs from the same guy...you ned 3 non paying bidder warnings from 3 diferent people.
Second, doesn't ebay have some rule about charging a reasonable amount for shipping?
Third, I would make him send every one seperate, and
Fourth, I would make it my goal in life to make his life hell...email his high bidders, tell them he scams and doesn't send cards, do whatever you have to do.

Unfoirtuneatly, contacting ebay won't get you far...they don't give a crap about their buyers, the buyer gets no benefit of the doubt, when something happens the burden of proiof is squarely on them. It's disgusting.
  • jbugsjbugs Posts: 1,708
thx guys. its really pissing me off now, that he wont cancel the bids of the auctions that are still going. he just wants to be a total ass about it.
  • Ebay doesn't have any restrictions on what someone charges for s/h. The only time ebay gets involved with what a person charges is if the seller charges an additional fee for someone paying through paypal or with a credit card. (That is not allowed)
And have you ever bought anything from a TV add or through cd/dvd/vhs/cassette club? They charge like $6.95 s/h for a single cd, etc!!
Also, I agree that you are getting screwed, but just playing devil's advocate as a seller myself, did you email him before the auctions ended and ask him if he combined s/h charges for buyers that won more then 1 auction. I usually get a couple emails per week from buyers asking me if I combine s/h charges if they win more then one auction. (and I actually state in my auction listings that s/h charges are combined if you win multiple auctions!!) That is also why I allow buyers to use SASE so that they can't whine if about the s/h charges.

Again, I'm not supporting what the seller did, but as each and every ebay auction states on the bottom in the fine print, Caveat Emptor (buyer beware)

hey, actually ebay has a policy against the shipping stuff. and ya i did email him a day before the first group closed, but he didnt email me until the next day after i won the auctions.
  • Sorry gettinout, they do have a policy against that. Here it is (from their listing policy statement - I've cut out the other examples):

Listing Techniques that Circumvent eBay's fee structure
Users may not use systems or techniques to circumvent eBay fees. Some examples include:

Listings with low prices but unreasonably high shipping or handling costs

Offering items for sale in a manner that circumvents eBay fees (click here for more information - reference section titled fee avoidance.)
Listings that circumvent eBay fees are not permitted and will be ended. The insertion fee will be automatically credited for that listing. Disciplinary action may result in the indefinite suspension of a user's account, temporary suspension, or a formal warning. eBay will consider the circumstances of an alleged offense and the user's trading records before taking action.

  • jbugs-- I would just take the negatives and tell him to FUC# OFF!! You can either start e new eBay ID or respond to his negatives explaining why you refused to send payemnt, i am sure people will understand. I would NEVER give him the time of day, especially after the stupid a$$hole admitted he was trying to make money off of you by jacking up shipping costs. E-mail him stating that if he does not lower his shipping cost to say- $10- then you are not paying, and tell him that for every negative feedback he gives you, he gets one as well. I think he'll come to his senses, and if he doesn't-- then play hardball with him. The satisfaction of telling him to shove it up his a$$ will be well worth having to start a new eBay id or taking the negatives

  • Someone here said that you can't charge a buyer more if they pay through paypal? Are you sure about that? I've done that before. I just tell the buyer I would like him to pay hald of the paypal fees and ill cover the rest. That seems fair. I mean the seller pays for the listing and then the final listing fees, so they should be allowed to recover some of paypals fees from the buyer. This is not the same thing as charging an outragous shipping price, because with an outragous shipping price the money goes straight into the pocket of the seller, if you charge the buyer for using paypal the seller doesnt get the money at all. If a seller won't do that then I just tell him to sell a check or money order cause i accept them too (depends how much paypals charges would have been, if not too much i may just tell him "fine, ill pay all paypal fees"
