Anatomy of 1977 Bruingirl Packs

So earlier in the year, before I was a member of this board, I purchased some unopened on eBay. Surprisingly, my first couple worked out. Then I ran into bruingirl selling 3 pack lots. I was bidding on 4 different lots, and in hindsight, fortunately, only won 1. They shipped quick, and when they arrived, they were nicely packaged, but lack of roller marks in particular gave my pause. However, I was quite new to unopened/vintage packs, and based on the reviews, kinda assumed they must be legit, and several reviewers even listed some of the cards they pulled. I decided to open 1 pack, and got a Jack Clark RC (woohoo, right?). I gave positive feedback, but still, wasn't quite feeling comfortable and decided I'd set those last 2 packs aside, outside of my PC, until I was better educated.

Thus one of the reasons I joined the board.

Well it didn't take long before I saw questions arising about this seller. Then I knew I was sitting on a pair of junker 77's that would need to be replaced. I reached out to Tim and he was kind enough to sell me a few packs to replace these.

With that, it had been months, so I wasn't gonna ask for a return. And even if she did process a return, those packs would just end up in some other poor schmucks hands. Since I knew going in, as with all things on eBay, that there's a chance you get jacked, I figured I'd eat it and post the results.

NOTE: The scans make the cards look better than they are...but the Ryan/Seaver will show the detail that most of the rest are in.

Pack #1: No Stars. Chips and Rough Edges, and Touched Corners...Awesome.

Pack #2: Chips and Rough Edges, and Touched Corners...but one nice card...with 4 Touched Corners

The only consistency in the quality of cards in these packs, was that there wasn't any. Nothing felt "pack fresh", and even a perfectly centered card wouldn't do better than NM. I mean have you seen a card come out of a pack that looks as used as that Ryan/Seaver? (To be fair though, I'd rather have that card than another beat up common...just sucks when the packs are stacked against you)

The wax card also had a good 2mm of wax on it. Guessing that iron was pretty hot.

Anyway, thought I'd share a cautionary tale. Be careful out there.

Thanks for posting the scans, Jim~those packs are without question 100% homemade as cards in each pack are not at all in sequence for that year. Sadly, this seller continues to sell tons of 3-pack vintage wax lots and early 80s star racks with near perfect feedback.

Here is another thank you for posting. Based on what others have said, I am not surprised by this. That Ryan/Seaver card looks like it has been around the block.

Bruingirl has done some real damage. The sheer volume of bogus unopened material that she has unleashed on unsuspecting buyers is really something.
