Hank Aaron Prices now far out of my range...

From SCN, someone is getting "special pricing" for Hank Aaron.

In person pricing for cards will be $300
I have 50 spots for cards that I can offer for $250
After the first 50 spots are sold, the pricing for cards will be $300

If this is the new trend for Aaron, he is now far, far, far out of my range.

I fear this may be a trend that will begin with the older HOFers as they wind down their signing days. We have already seen it with Willie Mays and Yogi Berra.

As far as I know, there is no more TTM, even after Dale raised the price to 100. In fact, I dont even think they are doing it through the Yogi Berra Museum. There are no returns from the museum since April. Now as far as I know, its now only through Steiner...if I remember it was either 200 or 250 but if you made special arrangements you could get them down to 150 on cards/small flats.

Saw the same thing happen with Gordie Howe. The market has changed, but as the players get older they realize (or their AGENTS realize image ) that they need to maximize their revenue while they have the ability to sign. Howe charges high prices now to sign.

The problem with Aaron is his signature has gone downhill dramatically. Why anyone would pay that much for a sloppy Aaron is beyond me. Sure, it's nice to have an item the player handled and signed, but part of it should be in the beauty of the autograph -- the flow and curvature of the lines. Not a knock on Aaron, as I realize the nerves go once you get older, but just as a player should retire before he's passed his playing prime, a signer should do the same once his auto becomes hard to recognize.

Willie Mays is a prime example of that. It's a battle, and one you might not win, to get him to use an ultra fine sharpie or a ball point pen. You are paying 300 for a complete garbage sig.

<< <i>Just out of curiosity, why is it that auto collectors like to pay for new autographs when graded versions can usually be had for so much less? To top it off, some of these signatures are becoming very scribbly (which may appeal to some I guess). I would understand if one were getting it in person but if it's thru the mail and you're not seeing them sign, why not not just order a PSA or JSA from ebay or something? >>

Depends on what you collect. Some people work on projects where they need these guys to sign their items. But if you are wanting to buy something like a basic signed baseball or photo, I agree it is silly to not buy one already signed.

Are his signatures on cards as bad as his signatures on baseballs? I want to get his auto on a multi player card but I'm not going to bother if the sig is that off.

This one was from a couple years ago through Steiners. It was the last sig I needed. I requested an ultra fine sharpie but he signed with a regular...than looks like it had a few too many sigs done on that pen before.
Maybe if someone has one more recent then we can compare any changes.

How much extra does it cost to get a HOF inscription for Aaron?

I was fortunate enough to get a 500hr book from my mom for Christmas a few years back. She picked it up in the discount bin at a book store for like $5. Turns out it was signed and numbered to 500 with an LOA from the publisher (Sports Publishing Inc.). It's #103 of 500. The signature is kinda sloppy though. Looks like 'Hal Aaron'. Doesn't look as nice as the sig I got in person about 7-8 years ago. The book was published in 1999, so age isn't the issue.

I *really* wanted him on my HOF bat but they were charging $800 at his last TriStar appearance here. Yeah, not so much....
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts

Is it me, or are these prices way out of line? What a shame for these once classy HOFer's. I never understood the tiered pricing for a jersey vs a photo vs a bat. Why so much for bats?
